Had some spare time this morning. Here is a simple map of power lines, substations etc.. I know it's not complete, but this gives us a good idea of the WDW grid.

Blue Lines = Above Ground Power Lines
Red Lines = Power Lines coming in to WDW Property
Green Star = Generator Plant/Station
Orange Stars = Where Power is Transferred Underground
Purple Stars = Electrical Substations

Special note:
Pink Line = Looks Like they are removing these power lines from the south northward. You can see the poles, but no lines. You can also see where the poles were removed where my pink line ends.

There must be way more below ground than above ground. Anyone have anything to add to this map?
Nice work. I think there's also a power sub station right behind the AAA Car Care Center near the Magic Kingdom toll booths.

Wasn't scolding you, just trying to reinforce the idea towards some of our more common-sense deprived members.....

True enough. That being said, how interesting would it be to go digging through those ConEx boxes? Maybe a little heartbreaking but it would be like opening a HUGE time capsule. If memory serves, some stuff from Horizons is rumored to have ended up here as well.

So are these the old POTC boats still sitting in the boneyard near the dry dock? If so, can they be put back into play during the upcoming, shortened, refurb please? As I don't recall them taking on so much water.

In conjunction with the above, random dirt roads through the woodlands provide emergency fire access to the wooded areas in case of fire. In one case west of Epcot there's a road that leads to both a cell tower as well as to the point where the overhead power transmission lines that skirt the edge of property from the north service area/generator plant transition from above-ground towers to underground service to Epcot.

Rob, could this be where DHS and AK gets its power from as well? I find it interesting that there so many resorts/buildings/facilities so spread out and all the electrical must be underground

Most of WDW's power grid is buried. It's a huge investment, but it also means a much more visually appealing environment. Not to mention, the lines can't be damaged by storms or car accidents if they're buried.

They pop up all over property, directly into transformers (the big green boxes they usually try to hide behind bushes, or backstage.

OK, so here's a two parter post. The pics below show where the power connection points are that transfer power from underground utilities or above ground where noted and into the them park or resort area. In this part of the post it will have the known connections. They have the yellow lines painted in the actual substation area. I have circled them in red to make them stand out more.

1. This one is in the Art of Animation area across the street a bit to the west. It could also power more than just art and pop century resorts. I think it could also power ESPN as it is also nearby to the south. Again power is coming from under ground up and then right back down into the ground.

2. Waste Treatment area. This is where the overhead lines coming from MK Power enter the waste area, in red. Also could include the bus compound to the west of this point across the street. Note in the Blue is the methane collection area that could also produce a bit more power via a smaller power plant possibly.

3. EPCOT Power entrance area. again this is coming from underground power up and then into the park. The EPCOT resort may also feed off of this as well, since I have yet to find their own dedicated connection point.

4. Hollywood Studios Power Entrance.

5.Industrial area north and east of MK. The power point is in red with power coming from above ground and then under ground. In the blue also note that this is the main laundry facility.

6. TTC Car Care area.

7. Reedy Creek Fire #4 location. This point could supply downtown Disney, Saratoga springs and others in the area. as no other locations have been found yet.

This is the second part of the power post. Here you will find connections that do not have the typical yellow paint marking in them. So that is why I am calling these suspect. However, I feel like they are most likely correct. Except #4. That one is definitely correct.

1. Animal Kingdom area. Another fun fact about this pic, the building to the lower right is the third bus compound area as well as casting and auditions in the building in the center of the pic. Most rest of this bus compound is out of frame to the bottom. The other 2 known bus compounds are behind TTC car care (for parking and fueling), the other location is to the west of waste treatment plant for actual maintenance of busses.

2. Blizzard Beach area. This one is debatable for sure. if not power then some other utility.
Blizzard Power Point.jpg

3. Old Key West area. Just like #2, this is suspect, but likely.

4. This is the power point where the Magic Kingdom power plant feeds out into the two overhead power lines. 1 goes directly west and the other does directly east. Each follows the property line for the most part until they hit a substation and get converted to underground power.

There are other areas with smaller power station points that are basically a small collection of transformers on the side of the road, etc. These I will locate and post at a later date.

Great pics, unfortunately you are now on the terrorist watch list. ;)

Locations 2 and 3 are pumping stations. The bridge cranes are a dead giveaway. They are used to lift submersible pumps out of the wells. Also the generators are a large clue as well.

Here are two of those terminating points discussed earlier.

This one is in back od Dino show building (inclided a shot with the front of the building to give some perspective):

Sorry for the elementary school level circling. :)

Yup, those are the transformer banks for those specific attractions, and perhaps nearby facilities.

High voltage power can travel a long distance, but once it's been stepped down at a transformer, it can't run very far, relatively speaking. Everything on property will be near a green transformer.

Just like pretty much all buildings. <grin> They are everywhere, people just have learned to ignore them. It's amazing how that green paint seems to blend well with everything. Just like people tend to phase out telephone poles and the white underground markers (the orange topped ones are for fiber/data trunks).

I challenge you guys to find a alligator on WDW property...

Another note:
From this far out shot, you see the canal coming from Bay Lake, all the way south past Celebration. Does this mean that at one time WDW included all the property west of that canal and as far south as to where the canal ends? Do they still own all that land south of 192 and west of I4? As well as land around Celebration? If I understand correctly, WDW property does not include Celebration but it once did. A

...Sry I know I need to get some good books and read up! Any historical maps to compare would be awesome.
