Haha, Michael Eisner is finally taking his job seriously - because right now he's a "necessary evil."

This IS exciting, but I wish it could have been on Roy's side in the Save Disney campaign. Oh well, eh?

The funny thing is, I think, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is bad that the Hensons are possibly on Eisner's side. I mean, Eisner is going to have to start making moves like these to keep the Disney fans happy and show that he really isnt about doing things the cheap way for a quick buck. Of course, now the company is going to have to prove this by doing something worthwhile with the Henson characters (movies, television, perhaps some more attractions at MGM?).

Don't take everything he does so negative... Finally he does something right, and you make it sound wrong again...

Fraggle rock wasn't part of the deal if you read the official release.

I'm excited to see what will be done now. I do hope they change the 3D film.

Is anyone else surprised though that Henson sold now? With all the chaos surrounding the company at this point, I'm shocked they okayed the deal? I mean, in theory, if Comcast did take offer (God forbid)the muppets could easily be sold off again. I wonder if the Henson's know something we don't in regards to the companies future stability?

My first reaction: This is excellent news!

My second reaction: The timing of the deal cannot be a coincidence. Roy's trying his hardest to give Eisner the boot, Comcast's attempting to purchase the entire company, and Disney decides on a whim that it's time to purchase a company they've been targetting since December 1990 (source: http://www.laughingplace.com/News-ID115500.asp ). No, I'd suspect the timing was deliberate, and this move was intended to restore shareholder confidence and boost the assets of the comany to avert a hostile takeover. Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about.

... Hey, how about those Muppet Babies? That was definitely one of the greatest animated series ever shown on the television! Let's hope it returns.

I agree with Calamar, this isn't a coincidence. Feels like Eisner's trying to keep his "throne" at this point. But still, who cares right now. There's too much be to excited about to worry about the CEO. I grew up watching the Muppet Show. Loved it and now we can finally welcome Kermit and the gang into the Disney family!

I also think Muppet Babies was the greatest cartoon on Saturday morning TV. Never missed it.

Well, I think that buying out the Muppets isn't too bad. At least these two companies work at the same level (children's programming.) Plus, they have worked together for years and this is a nice balance.

Nothing wrong -- this is a really good thing for the company. I'm just saying all of a sudden this is pulled (generally) for Eisner support. Short-term this is good to maintain Disney's power as independence - hence, after a while, Eisner is FINALLY getting it done.

Long term, however, I hope Henson will help Disney quality, etc. and not exactly company influence in support of the current board.

I wouldn't downplay the possibility of a coincidence here. Eisner and Disney have been trying for over a decade to seal the rights to the Muppets and for years, everytime the door opened, something got in the way and stopped them. This is something Eisner has been working on for a long time and it was the last wish of Jim Henson that the Muppets go to Disney. I can guarentee this acquistion didn't just fall into place within the last few weeks after the enormous pressure Disney has been under since the fallout from Pixar and the ComCast bid. Its been a very long road to finally see this deal through. Sure, it couldn't have happened at a better time for Disney and Eisner, but don't downplay the hard work and determination that went into finally getting this deal done.
