Just wondering if anyone has taken the Backstage Magic tour at the Magic Kingdom? We are thinking about taking this on our next trip, but was hoping for some advice, tips on what the tour is like.

We know all the places and things it tours, but want to know is it worth the price? Park admission is not required, right?

Also, to be clear, the Backstage Magic tour is the long one that goes to all 4 parks. The shorter one at just the MK is Keys to the Kingdom.

I've done the keys to the kingdom at MK and I can say its definitely worth. You'd probably know most of the stuff they'll tell you're a real disney freak but its really interesting to see backstage

I have to disagree with that just a little. I saw and heard lots of things that I had never even thought about before I took the tour. Some of it I thought would be a huge yawn, like the laundry facility, but, it turned out to be really impressive. If it goes to AK now that is a plus, it didn't when I took the tour about 10 years or so.

At the time that I went, they ended the tour where they started it, at Epcot, however, the last stop was MK in time for the 3 o'clock parade. At that point you had the option of going back to the starting point or staying in MK if you wanted to. That sounds better then it really is because they will escort you to the entrance for you to pay your entry fee. By then it is almost 4pm. Very few took them up on it, one or two maybe, the rest of us headed back.

I was talking about the Keys to the Kingdom tour that just goes through MK. The tour you're referring to is the Backstage Magic Tour!

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought we were talking about the Backstage magic tour, my bad. But, there is still some new stuff in the KttK tour as well.

I did Backstage Magic two years ago and it was pretty great, but probably only worth the money to a real park nut.

Is Backstage Magic still the only one that takes you into Central Shops?
That place is basically the chocolate room at Willy Wonka's factory.

I was really stoked to see the parade float building(keys) but I know Backstage doesn't do that! :-( So being a disney fan...not a freak, which tour would you do?

yes, it still hits the Central Shops. I did it shortly after Maelstrom had closed for good and saw a number of props from the ride back there, made me sad, but it was better seeing them there than in the dumpster, I suppose.

I did keys probably 15 years ago and loved it. We did the Marceline tour just before snow white closed and thought it was easily the best value for such a low price. (we got to ride snow white with the lights on – then it was gone shortly after!)

Considering backstage magic for our 10 year anniversary next year.

Thread bump. Thinking about doing this in early May. I would be doing the tour on a free day. If true that they’ll let you stay at MK, I have an ADR at ‘Ohana that night. I could explore MK for a bit before my ADR. I have an AP so not an issue with me I could take the monorail back to Epcot to pick up my car. Or bus back to resort if I take bus to Epcot for start of tour.

Yes, I know you’re referring to Backstage Magic and not KTTK.

You can’t stay inside the park- Even if you have tickets, you have to exit the park and go back in. We did Backstage Magic in 2015 (the 4 park tour) it ends at Festival of Fantasy but everyone has to exit the park because you did not enter with a ticket. Pretty sure all of the tours are this way. We had tix but still had to exit, we were going to Epcot after anyway so no big deal but they physically have to make sure everyone exits.

Understood. Of course you have to leave. They need to ensure valid entry into a park. Like I said, I have an AP so not an issue for me.

Just wanted to make sure that if you made fastpasses or something that you could account for the time. You actually get back on the bus, they hand out pins and close up so it does take a little while, plus getting back in. :)

With an 8:45 ADR at ‘Ohana, then FPs for 5-6, 6-7, and 7-8 or in that neighborhood should work. Thanks. Yeah. Definitely would want to collect the pin.

One thing I don't remember is if I had to use my ticket to get into MK for the Keys to the Kingdom, plus the fee for the tour. I must have because I stayed after it was done. It was just a short one that ended shortly after lunch. It was interesting though just not as wide spread as Backstage. That was a long time ago, I'd guess around 2002. I'm sure it has changed a lot. I just took it because I wanted to explore the Utilidors. That was really interesting.
