Yeah most of the southern section of WDW isn't covered by the No Fly Zone. It's odd were they chose the center point. I would have personally put it a bit father south but oh well. I think the main thing is they didn't want flying banners and sky writers over Magic Kingdom.
First timer here but as a pilot who knows that TFR (temporary flight restriction) it's specifically for lasers and fireworks. IE Illuminations and wishes. I many times during the day have been allowed to fly directly over the mk at 1500 feet well below the 3000 for restriction. A simple request to air traffic control and I've never been told no. Sadly I no longer work in Florida so I don't get a chance to fly over any more.

Yeah, people often misunderstand the flight restrictions around WDW, it's good to occasionally have a post like this that clarifies it.

Interesting. I figured ATC would be more restrictive. On the other hand the TFR was in place if I remember right because of flying banners and sky writers. Normal air traffic shouldn't have to much of an issue.

Sorry for the caps. Copied from FAA website.

That's what the new TFR states. However the original TFR specifically stated firework displace and high intensity lasers (which made sense). Trying to not get too far off topic but yes essential Disney has used these new regulations post 9/11 to keep the banner towers out. Ironically there has been nothing temporary about them as they have been there everyday since. Also if you get a big enough banner they are gonna see it even if it's above 3000ft and you have until 6000 feet until you are in Kmco airspace. Which is where I'm sure the sky writer that I have seen many times is the airspace he is probably flying in.
