27 Consecutive years going to Disney and Never Experienced this Before

In August 2008 I visited WDW. The day after I arrived, so did Tropical Storm Fay, who was with me for the next 4 days.

I took it in stride, visited Universal and SeaWorld in the rain, and also did some resort hopping in the rain. Tropical Storm Fay wasn't too bad, a minimal wind event (40-50mph every so often), but a somewhat major rain maker in certain parts of Florida (23 inches in Cape Canaveral vs. 2-3 inches in Lake Buena Vista, if I recall).

Coolest part was sloshing and jumping through all the puddles at the Magic Kingdom the last night of Fay before she finally moved north of Orange County - oh, and walking down a deserted Main Street USA in a downpour. Loved it!

Photo below is from the "afternoon" the day before she moved out, and about 2 hours before the photo above. Lights, Motorcars, Action rain-shortened performances during two downpours. Moments after show ended, massive downpour as we all exited down the long stretch from the amphitheater.

I totally understand what you mean about rain ruining a WDW trip. We went 2 years ago in late August and landed as a tropical storm circled over Orlando for most of our trip. We hadn't been to Disney in 3 years and booked an 8 day trip. The constant rain ruined our trip for several reasons:

I didn't get a tan, constantly cloudy, colder, and windy. When you were outside you wore a poncho that didn't cover all of your clothes, so your lower legs, and feet were still wet. When you entered a ride that had the A/C set for a 110 degree day.. it got pretty cold and miserable, pretty fast.

Any outdoor attractions (specifically at Universal Studios) were shut down due to the storms.

Disney is about enjoying the atmosphere of the parks and different lands. My friends and I really liked just walking around and looking at all the details of the parks, especially at night. When it was a pour down you would move from one indoor location to another. It really cut the trip in half.

Water parks were only so much fun when the sun was rarely out - I go to the parks to have fun, but also get some sun. A storm can really ruin the day and also shut down the parks when it would lightning, etc.

Ultimately, I hate the rain at Disney.. not just a few hour storm, but when it would go ALL day and night. It ruins most outdoor shows, parades, and activiites. And you're right, we had saved up and looked forward to that vacation for a long time and it was a huge bust! Luckilly we have several other vacations that were much more improved after that!

I would change perspective and call it a blast. Forget ponchos. Go out and get soaked, jump in puddles, and enjoy. I have done this on several occasions. People hunker down in ponchos, dwell in their rooms, hide like the plague. I find it to be a blast to just "soak" it in.

YES....thats what we do!!! Heck with the rain...just have fun.

We were at the World during Tropical Storm Fay

Fay did not affect our visit to the World in the least. Ponchos on and off we went. The posted picture of Main Street gives an idea of what attendance and weather was like. No waiting in lines, ride as often as you wish. More people were smiling than frowning. It was like having the Park to yourself. Great time had by one and all. Rain does not dampen the experience!! :sohappy:

we did have fun, the point I was trying to convey thayt this was really the first time we had experienced any " all day" rains.....again, like we get up north...its always been just the passing 1-2 hour thunderstorm then it brightened up...and YES we have been lucky, very lucky but thats why this was so unusual for us.
