Not Over California?

This is just my thoughts people but if the latest Epcot Attraction is a clone of DCA's-Why has it dropped the 'Over California' part of the title?

Could this mean that we'll be treated to a new film? Or is it just to give Imagineers oportunity to change their minds until the last minute?

I think its a more catchy name for one thing! Just plain "Soarin'" certianly rolls off the tongue easier.

It certainly does also give them the opportunity of changing the subject matter during the lifespan of the attraction without a name change.

I am very much looking forward to "Soarin'" over anywhere! :)

Personally, I've found it ridiculous that the Soarin' ride is planned to be "Over California" -- a little inappropriate for Epcot's Futureworld, in my opinion. I'm glad that "Over California" was dropped from the name, but unfortunately it seems that the California ride video will be used initially, though it's certainly possible for this to change. I spoke with an older cast member on Tuesday who appeared to be knowledgeable on this topic. She said that Disney is rushing to open the attraction as soon as possible, and this means that the video will be re-used from the original attraction; they aren't going to spend money and time developing a new ride experience when they could release a perfectly completed attraction in a shorter period of time.

I think its ok...as long as it is changed in a timely manner...many people in the eastern section of the US (and other parts of the world) may have not experienced Soarin Over California in DCA...its appropriate atleast for now, since people who haven't experienced the DCA version will get to ride the attraction at WDW...Having been on it myself, I think its a great addition to Epcot...and if the rumors are true and this will not be a separate pavilion (which I'm dissapointed about)...a great addition to The Land Pavilion...but I would like to see a new film maybe in two years...just some thoughts....

There going to use the California film when opening for the 50th anniversary celebration for Disneyland, maybe after that they have a new movie.

I wouldn't bet on Soarin' getting a new movie any earlier than 2015 unless there is disastrously low turnout.

Honestly, how often have the other EPCOT attractions changed?

I read that Soarin' is going to end with an aerial view of Disneyland which is significant to the 50th anniversary.

"Over California" is completely appropriate for DCA, but would be akward in EPCOT. On a side note: Having been on the ride, I do not think its an inappropriate movie for the pavillian it has been attached too (ie the land). Cool to tie the whole 50th into it with the fly over of DL (which is a great ending, btw).

The few times I've ridden it, there has always been applause at the end of the ride. Although its a clone, I think everyone will be pleased with the addition. I think Soarin' is the perfect name,

I'm positive that when people get to ride it, all the 'why CALIFORNIA!?!?!' posts will go away. Hands down, SoC was my second favorite ride at Disneyland, which is slightly behind Indiana Jones. The music, the movie, everything is just awsome! I found this pic that shows the ride system better....

I have been told that the new film is likely to open around the time of a certain anniversary at Epcot in the not too distant future. :animwink:

Disney can easily spin this. The 50th to celebrate the California original - so Soarin will start as California as a tribute.

Using the name Soarin now makes the ride easily adaptable if/when a new film comes out. The ride can still be called Saorin but they wouldn't have to change the key chains, plushies, shirts, hats, coffee mugs, shot glasses, etc. :hammer:

Oh, I'm sure some brilliant genious out there is going to ignore the warnings they give for Soarin'. You know. The ones about fear of heights and motion sickness.

Now they can have idiots who ignore warnings puking their guts out in Space and then over California.:hurl: :hammer:

Personally, I'm excited about Sorain'. I didn't like the California idea at first, but really it does make sense. People that visit WDW are going to come from more of the eastern side of the United States, many of those people may not know exactly what California is like. I was born in FL and have never travled out west, so Soarin' will be the closest thing to being able to visit California. Besides, Soarin' over Florida would be really boring. Look there's a palm tree, another palm tree, look at that swamp, oohh.

I'd be happy if the only anniversary present we got was the removal of the Mickey hand from Spaceship Earth :D

No Kidding!

I also am glad that we will get to see the original California film first. From what I've seen from the videos I've got online, it seems like it is a very good film. But I also know that these videos never do an attraction like this justice. I can't wait until it opens.

I can't wait for the ride to open!!! I agree with objr... If it is tied in with the land pavilion it will fit really well. It is such an amazing ride and it would be nice to eventually change into something more global than California. But the current ending for Soarin' Over California will be perfect to pay tribute to Disneyland during the 50th year celebration.
