I think that the first step is that the outside doors on the building would have to open first- until that happens, the centrifuge really doesn't matter!

I've been wondering this too...with four giant centrifuges, they would either need to let guests see the inner workings of the centrifuges, or have cylindrical walls around each centrifuge...but that would take a LOT of Cast Members to run...getting guests to all of those pods in a timely manner.

I don't think so- look at Body Wars and Star Tours. Each employs a multi-axis ride system that must move freely within its enclosure and neither has problems with ride loading.

It's very probably that the loading area will consist of a semi-circular/circular room to load passengers.

You are going to see the inner workings, no concealing of the boarding. The storyline is going to be sold as "astronaut training", not a space flight. With the story being based around training, it will make sense to see the centrifuge. Although I think it is going to freak people out! The ride system looks pretty intimidating! :)

Ummm... is anyone else INCREDIBLY disappointed with this?? I thought the storyline was "something goes terribly wrong" and involved Mars and things like that! I knew it was an international space training center theme but I still thought the storyline would involve an actual launch into Space. This is so sad. It's like the storyline on DINOSAUR being... "once you board our EMV simulators.... you will encounter fake dinosaurs and various special effects." Steve, is there any chance you could be wrong? I hope so.

The storyline is going to be more along the lines of test track, where you are at a training/test facility.

They will say welcome everyone this way to Mission Space. when you get there they will lock you in and you think (They are just doing like they do in actual space trips.) Then it starts and your worst fear has come true!

It's a small world after all! it's a small world after all! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone really think it would be proper for Disney to ever have the "something goes wrong" spiel in the MS ride, especially with the recent Columbia tragedy?

IMHO MS should have a fitting tribute of the inherent dangers involved with space exploration or at the very least a mention of the fallen heroes of the US space agency from the APOLLO to Challenger and recently Columbia.

Most important is that technolgy will advance, using the current space shuttle design will change eventually, MS should portray those other designs and future projections of space travel.

Thats true. I have seen pictures of something from like screamscape or something like that; where the space shuttle looks like its in asteroid feel or somewhat of something.

I dont think it would be really a good idea for Disney to add the "something goes wrong" part in there... They wouldn't do that anyone concluding the tragedy that just happened with the Columbia.
Where do you guys get the info for the MS Storyline though?

It wouldn't be proper, but it might be closer to the truth with NASA's "Safety first, after budget" mentality. (j/k) :hammer:

This is some of the most depressing WDW news I've seen in a long time! I don't want to "pretend" blast off into space, I want to "go" there!

Is this something you can 100% confirm? If so, it's a major bummer.

I was hoping there's be some sort of circular boarding platform thing that conceals all but the entrance to the pods, then gets lifted away before the flight start (so the centrifuge can start going).

Yup it is a simulated training flight, and the ride capsule is not going to be concealed. You are going to see the ride pod and other associated hardware (basically the big black centrifuge, big arms hanging off it, and 10 white 4 person pods)

This is so incredibly sad. They are taking a concept so amazing and ruining it. Test Track is right next door! We don't need two. :hammer:

Why is everyone dissappointed?

Just because Mission Space is going to be a test-like ride instead of a full-blown simulated ride (like the old Mission to Mars) doesn’t mean bad news. The Disney magic is all about transporting people to places they have only dreamed about. In this case, that place is a training facility for astronauts. How many of us have ever been to space camp? How many of us have had a chance to ride in a real centrifuge? So what if you the ride system – this is going to be one cool ride!

I’m also glad that this isn’t going to be one those "something goes terribly wrong" rides – Disney has too many of them! Look at the list – Alien Encounter, Winnie the Pooh, Body Wars, Star Wars, Dinosaur, Muppets 4D, Twilight Zone, Tiki Birds, Honey I Shrunk The Audience – did I miss any? If Mission Space turns out to be a good-natured trainer, then I say, good for them! It’s about time they added a positive ride where nothing goes wrong and everything goes right.

Uh oh, I think I hear the flame throwers warming up! I had better duck quickly!
