Line Cutting

I just came back from a week at Disney. We visited all 4 parks - some twice. I saw one recurring thing that really bothered me and I was wondering if I'm alone in this. Does it bother anybody else when you're in the stand-by line for an attraction and are perhaps as far as half way through when one or two people work their way up and past you to get to the rest of their party? It just strikes me as incredibly rude to the 30 - 50 people they had to pass to do this. Why don't they just wait and enter the line together? Or if part of the party is more towards the front of the line and it's really that important that they ride with someone who has just entered the end of the line, can't the people in front step aside and let the line progress past them until the rest of their party catches up to them?

I noticed that Soarin' in Epcot is especially bad for this type of behavior and I'm thinking that perhaps the width of the line is partly to blame. You can fit probably 6 people shoulder to shoulder all the way across that line. Since most parties are less than 6 people this leaves a decent sized "empty aisle" up one side of the stand-by line on this ride and makes it really easy for people to cut past dozens of people. While the wait can approach 60 minutes for many on this ride, some breeze by and can do the stand-by line in 15 or less.

We always entered each attraction as a group. If somebody had to make a pit stop before the ride, we all waited and got in line together. Is this a normal practice for others??? Am I too sensitive about this??

What is everybody else's take on this?

It's rude, but whatever. You just have to accept that a percentage of the population is ignorant and not let it affect you.

We were just at Disney 03/17-03/23 and noticed the same thing.
I tried to not let it bother me and ruin my magic. But I have to admit sometimes it did after being in line for 50 minutes for a ride and then seeing someone cut inf ront of me I was ........ticked off a few times.

Well I have to admit i am not a big fan of that but what can you do. Sometimes a line for a ride is so long that others can head to another attraction and return to the rest of their party who are waiting!
Whether its the right thing to do or not.. I don't know

I will admit that my husband stood on line for peter pan while I ran to take my son to the restroom and someone questioned my husband and he said I am sorry, but when a 4 year old has to go, he has to go and it only takes one of us to do it..LMAO

As a dad in a family of 4, where someone is usually using he bathroom, I'd say no. If my wife has to change my kid's diaper in a restroom that is usually over-capacity for the kids tables, why should we all wait when I can get in line with my 8 year old?

I know there are limits, like the one person who "holds" for 10 people is wrong, but I'm OK with a designated waiter-person.

If the rest of them are getting food, and this person isn't hungry, why make him wait for them?

Funny that you mentioned Soarin' because when we were there in May, we were in line for Soarin' and these two adults kept side stepping everyone in line, most everyone thought they were meeting their group...then they got up to the area where they put you on a number in line and it was just the two of them! Talk about some heated words. These were two adults, male and female at least 40 years old (or very hard living).

One or two family members? doesn't really bother me.

A whole group of people trying to catch up with the one person waiting in line? irritating and rude!

Yeah, you can do three things about it:

1) Speak up, make a scene and get yourself, other bystanders, and the "perpetrators" all upset about it and still nothing will happen except in the rare instances that a fight breaks out. Ruins your day!

2) Say nothing and keep it bottled up inside yourself and get all upset and ruin your day over it.

3) Just ignore it, feel sorry for these people that have grown up to be such rude people and just move along with the rest of you day and not think about it again. This is the only option that doesn't really ruin anyone's day.

Due the length and time of some of the lines it does not bother me. Some people have small kids that almost always have to use the restroom at the most inconvenient times, sometimes you need to get something to drink. I would have to say it’s no bother to me.

I will be the first to admit that I do this, but it is only because I have to go to the restroom. I normally go with 2-4 people and I do not see a problem with 1 or 2 people going to the bathroom and then catching up with the others in their party waiting in line, or even leaving the line to go to the bathroom and then come back as long as they are far enough away from the front of the line that it would not cause a problem getting back.

Same here. One or two doesn't bother me. Especially if there is a small child involved. I know mine kids aren't the only ones that don't bother to tell anyone that they have to go to the bathroom until their bladders are about to burst. However when it comes to one or two members of a party holding a place in line for a bunch of others I will let a cast member know. The only time this has happened the cast member informed this party to go to the back of the line. They naturally refused, he then informed them that he would contact security and have them escorted from the park. The then reluctantly complied.

Exactly. I don't mind if one or two people had to run to get something - a beverage, drop off some trash, maybe they ran to grab a FP, whatever - but when it's an entire group? That's wrong.

One of my #1 pet pieves is every time I am in line for Soarin, in the main area with the trivia, people trying to push to the front. Last time I was there I got madder than fire at this group that just kept pushing past people to the front! About 8 or 9 feet in front of me the Dad of this family said something to them, I was like THANK YOU!

I don't know why but on Soarin that makes me furious and at some of the other attractions with the larger queue areas that eventually line down.

I am not a big fan of it at all, but I have gotten over it for a couple people (I agree, especially if there is a young child involved). The large groups are just inappropriate IMHO. However, there is nothing you can really do about it. If you want to, please write a letter to guest relations. It is doubtful that anything will be done, but if enough people complain, who knows. Sorry it has become an inevitability of sorts.

When I was 13 I was at Seaworld and joined the queue with my group for JtA. The line was SO long and I was so thirsty that I left, got a drink and then made my way back to the group. I knew it was the same wait time, but blimey the looks you get! I can understand them though, and I probably wouldn't do it again!

I would think that in most cases you would have enough advance warning that use of the facilities was needed before you got in line. Why not just have everyone wait for you before getting in line rather than irritate people who have stood in line waiting for the ride? It might not make your friends very happy, but as a person who would not use that for an excuse to advance in a line, it doesn't make me happy for adults to use this as an excuse, either.

I have noticed it at Soarin' more than any other attraction. I have 4 kids, so the last time we were there, we spread across the entire line and didn't have too much trouble with people trying to push by. It could also have something to do with me being 6'8" and 275 lbs. and standing slightly behind the kids, but maybe not...

I've waited in line while one or more family members have left to get something to drink or use the restroom or whatever, but I always let people by me 'til the resdt of my group joins me. I did notice it happening at Soarin' in February though. Perhaps they'll do something about it before the onslaught of tour groups this summer.

TOUR GROUPS, she said TOUR GROUPS.
It's always gonna happen, line cutting that is. As long as the good people in the world (pun intended) tolerate it then it will keep happening. I don't mind one bit when families with small children hold a spot in line for each other, that should be a given but the line holder with 5 teenage kids that come running up through the line bothers me and I do tend to say something to them or at least step on their feet. (just kidding) But I do say something to them just to let them know they didn't get away with it un-noticed.

I only get upset when one person stands in line for an entire family.

I have stood in lines for over an hour on several occasions, in the Florida heat, when the guy in front of me waves his family to come through the crowd and join him. They show up with Cokes and ice cream after having stood in the shade or in air conditioning while we waited in the hot lines.

This bothers me for 2 reasons:

1) If I have to stand in a hot sweaty line full of stinky people, so should everyone.

2) If your family show up in line front of me, with ice cream cones and ice cold drinks...you better be either be prepared to share..or get cussed at.
If I can't have an ice cream cone or a cold drink because I have been waiting in line for an hour, neither should you.

I do however agree with the kids going to the bathroom thing...if they gotta go..they gotta go.

I especially don't like it when my wife and I try to get a decent place to watch Illuminations at EPCOT and we find a good spot with only one person near by, and that person says "I'm saving these 10 spots for my family."

Again...if I have to wait an hour in order to get a good spot to watch a show, everyone should have to wait also.

I'm finding that I am getting more and more impatient as I grow older.
Don't put those strollers, blankets or anything else in front of my view of Illiminumations to try and save places...I WILL throw them into the lagoon.
