Duffy now appearing on Epcot restaurant Kid's menus

I've never tried bear before. Why only for kids though? I bet its great with a bearnaise sauce....
:)

Seriously, though, maybe I'm just getting too old but: down with the bear. It's getting harder for me to see WDW without cynicism anymore. There was a time when souvenir sales were an ancillary benefit to the company of having a great set of theme parks. The souvenir shops were often even part of the show -- remember the magic shop, or the silversmith? Now we have all this nonsense like pins, and Duffy the Bear Who Must Be Bought, commodities presented for our consumption, and their appearance is touted as an attraction in itself, as though commercials were part of the show.

So pretty much the merchandise is not selling and nobody knows who this marketing gimmick is so they decide to shove them down kid's throat anyway they can. Got it...

They'll just ignore the facts and continue whining over something that doesn't effect them.
Oh, I give up, what "facts" am I ignoring? Seems like this is a matter of opinion, or taste.

I think you mean "affect," but you are, of course, correct. The appearance of Duffy the Bear Who Must Be Bought has no practical effect on my life. But that would be true of anything that happens at Walt Disney World. I don't live there, after all. It's just some place I go on vacation. I'm merely expressing my disappointment that something that I have really enjoyed and respected is making a decision that I do not enjoy or respect.

As little as Duffy affects me, think how much less my post affects you. And yet, you reacted to me, as I reacted to the appearance of Duffy, by making a post on a message board.

He's not my favorite, but at least its a created character that has no movie tie-in.

And this to me would indicate that merchandising is doing great so they are diversifying. You don't try to boost lagging sales by introducing a character no one knows with no ties to rides in the park and saying "buy this".

Not to mention he's been around for awhile in stores. This is just his first trip to WDW in force.

I wasn't even REPLYING to your comment, but rather MAF's baseless comment that this was somehow a response to poor sales. The "Fact" is that this was announced at the initial presentation and was the plan all along. But rant on if you must.

Well, excuse Disney for trying to profit from something...

I don't even know what you're trying to say in that bolded sentence.
