The Foodie "Canadian Themed" Musical of MillerPoppins

So here we are, home already. I don't remember ever being as bummed after a trip as I am with this one and I attibute that to it being so amazingly awesome. I believe this, along with the 2008 trip with my Mom, was at the top of the Disney trip list. I was so afraid that after months of planning, something was going to go wrong. Aside from one minor set back (more on that in a bit), the trip was perfect. So let's get started!

So to recap, this is my 9th trip to this World of ours and my boyfriend's very first. Tim has literally been all over the globe, seeing everything from the pyramids to rainforests to glaciers. When I heard that he had never been to WDW, I insisted that I would be the first to take him. And while he was very excited, he never wanted to see any footage, photos or anything Disney related except for the animated classics before we got there. It made it very difficult for me. However, it paid off greatly in the end. And as much I believe I have converted him, he's not completely on board with blogging on being on "Disney sites". With that being said, his photo will not be posted. You'll have to settle for photos of me and some awesome scenic ones he took.

So our trip started the night before as he scrambled to pack and I had been pretty much ready for a week. After he zipped up his case, we went to our local sushi joint for a quick and non messy dinner. After rolling out, we had minor food coma and crashed. Wake up call came quite early though at 3:30am and we headed out the door. To my knowledge at that point, we were set to go! I was so excited and could barely contain myself as we headed though security and stopped for a quick coffee before heading to our gate. As I was waiting in line, I was digging though my bag and could not find my phone...

To back track, two years ago on the night before the trip, my cell phone was stolen enroute to my parents house. I had to spend two frantic hours trying to cancel service and have a new phone sent to All Star Movies. It was an experience I did not want to repeat. However, here I was on my vacation and it would be the second Disney trip that I had a phone dilenma before I even left. Thankfully, Tim had his so I wasn't as upset. What could I do?

After a quick two and a half hour flight, we were in paradise! We marched right up to the DME, boarded and were off within 10 minutes with one other family on the way to All Star Music. We couldn't help but crack up though that the song from the Canadian Pavilion movie was on in the bus. Tim is from Canada and our dinner that night was in Le Cellier. Thoughout the trip, Canada seemed to be quite prominent through other guests, shirts and themes. After our little video, we were there! Our front desk agent Dianne was extremely gracious and granted every request I had. A king sized bed in the Jazz Inn and it was ready!!! What more could I want??? We headed to our room and as we walked out towards the pool, I started getting emotional. We were finally here..after two years of waiting, months of planning and lots of saving pennies.

We were thrilled with the room, changed into "Florida" clothes and headed to Epcot. We were ready for some Food and Wine Festival goodness and Future World Fun!

We headed to Soarin, got fast passes and decided to grab lunch from Sunshine Seasons. I was a bit apprehensive about the crowds. The place was packed! I ran though my head thinking what could be going on that I wasn't aware of? I had come down during the same time a couple years ago and it was NOT like this. I tried not to let it bother me and looked forward to some yummy Sunshine Seasons goodness. Tim got the Pork Chop and Caramel Apple cake for dessert while I got the Grilled Salmon and Key Lime Tart.

Our meals were very yummy. We both enjoyed them and were happy so far with our choices. But I'm not going to lie. I had been eyeing up that Key Lime Pie for months on here, as I am a Key Lime Fanatic. It was not what I was expecting. First off, the thing is as big as it looks on photos (That's What She Said! :D), but was not the texture I expected. It was almost of a jello consistency. It wasn't awful, just not what I had pictured in my head.

With full bellies, we headed back to Future World and Nemo.

Tim was really impressed with Nemo and Turtle Talk. I really enjoy Turtle Talk and we both got a huge laugh out of a little boy's explanation of what that bikini top does that Crush finds. Needless to say, most of the room was speechless as well as Crush. It was hilarious!

We dropped by the Festival Marketplace and then made our way to World Showcase. We wandered through a bunch of booths and Canada. I was anxious for Tim to see the Canada pavilion to give his thoughts on how they did. He really enjoyed it and liked the movie. Both of us were thrilled to be there and really enjoying the F&W festival.

LOL no he's in plenty of photos, he just doesn't want them posted "all over the web" as he says. Both of us are actually very private folks so this is an adjustment to me as well. He's from outside of Toronto.

Ok we continued around World Showcase for a bit. Tim was super impressed with the Food Booths and Epcot as a whole.

While we were in France, I tried my very first Grand Marnier Orange Slush. My GOSH that lived up to the hype...it was delicious! So much so, that I kind of threw it back quicker then I probably should have...:lookaroun. Yeahhhh...hit me mighty quick! More countries ensued after a powerade and checking out this..

Then came more wandering..

Loved this beer tap in Japan!

I won't bore you with every country, but here are a few more highlights...

I love this photo in China.
100_2990.jpg

I pretty much handed my camera over to Tim for the week because his is older and doesn't take pictures as fast. So, although this was definitely the trip that I personally took the least photos, I came home with the most. Over 1800 photos!!!! And 243 photo pass shots! RIDICULOUS!

100_2980.jpg

New caramel kitchen in Germany has some pretty crazy stuff in there!

100_2994.jpg

However, I didn't try anything because 1. we were full from the food booths. 2. were trying to save room for dinner at Le Cellier.

We poked our heads into Via Napoli..the food and place looked awesome! It's huge, it's loud and it looks really impressive. I think I'd opt for a table outside for noise levels reasons and honestly I love people watching. We sat on a bench there for a temporary time out and really enjoyed watching other folks enjoy themselves. We did that a lot this trip.

So after wandering around World Showcase, hitting up Soarin and Test Track with Fast Passes, we made our way to what I had waited 9 trips for...
100_2928.jpg

I was so exhausted at this point but I didn't care. We had been up since 3:30am and our reservation wasn't until 8pm, but I was so amped up it didn't matter to me. We wandered in, took part in some trivia and then got to our table. Tim was super excited at this point as well because he was hoping to see how close "home" this was going to be.

He got the mussels, which he loved and I got the Cheddar Cheese Soup. Sadly, because we were so hungry at this point, we started eating without photos. Both were great and I LOVED the soup.

He requested we get the Poutine, as this was a favorite of his in Canada. Sadly, he claimed it wasn't anything like it.

100_3013.jpg

Sorry the photo is a bit fuzzy. I liked them either way but the traditional way sounds great.

For our entrees, he got the famous filet rare as can be and I got the gnocchi.

100_3016-1.jpg

100_3017-1.jpg

I have to be honest. I did not like my entree at all and it broke my heart. The texture of the gnocchi was not like any other gnocchi I have ever had. To be fair, I have a texture issue. I can't do scallops or anything remotely squishy. The texture was like uncooked potatoes were used for the gnocchi. I was so bummed and Tim felt awful. Thankfully, the soup filled me up and I had room for dessert. The server thought I was just full but I couldn't bring myself to tell her I didn't like it.

Here's dessert!

Neither of us are big chocolate fans, but we really enjoyed these. SO GOOD! Full, we both rolled out of Epcot and home. We unpacked then crashed into bed. We had 8:05am Crystal Palace reservations that we had to get up for!

Okay, as a Canadian that thinks poutine looks disgusting on a regular basis, I just have to say.. that is the WORST looking poutine I have EVER seen - does not look legit at all, either. Who makes it with cheddar cheese? Yuck.

I am disappointed at EPCOT, haha.

Keep up the TR =)

Being a lumberjack from le cellier I just wanted to comment on the Poutine. We do use real cheese curds from Canada for it, which took FOREVER to get. There is a huge process in getting food approved to be used in WDW restaurants and this was a difficult task to accomplish, but we did it! As for the chives that get thrown on top, thats something I keep telling the kitchen isnt accurate at all, so sometimes ithey show up and other times they dont. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents

So has that cheese change out happened since that picture was taken?

I have avoided the poutine just because I saw it come out looking like that once. Now I do like that dish (sans chives) but it's no poutine - fries like that are Disco Fries (its a Jersey thing) and come with either american cheese or mozzerella (and gravy). as you know, poutine is a different dish altogether.

That picture is with the new cheese we got, although it doesnt look exactly like the real deal you can get at home, it does taste very similar and the majority of my guests enjoy it, and has recieved a passing grade from most of the Francophones in the pavilion, including Frances, who was the one begging for this to be on the menu forever :) The chives thing tough has to stop! :p

What the heck is poutine? That plate looked like cheese fries to me.

Millerpoppins...lovin' the report. Keep it coming. Crystal Palace early is my favorite ADR to get...but that has nothing to do with the restaurant. That's just the cherry on top of the awesomeness of Main Street early in the morning. :D

BTW, hubby's baby brother married a Canadian girl from Niagara-on-the-Lake. I think that's a little ways away from Toronto, tho. My one and only trip to Canada was for their wedding. The area right there when driving from Niagara Falls up to NotL is so freaking gorgeous! Too bad the sis-in-law turned out to be of the flaky variety. I'd have liked to have gone back to visit again. :D

Kinda like cheese fries.. only with gravy :lookaroun
Yeahh, I wouldn't put my lips on the stuff, personally.

Hahahhaa. Flaky variety - I like that (not in this context, necessarily).
Come to Cape Breton, it's the prettiest.

The second trip report I read today before breakfast, and the second one that involves food. What am I thinking?! Okay, time to take a break before reading the next!

Great TR! Thanks for all of the (delicious) food photos!

So those cheese fries (sorry if there's more to them than that) are called Poutine? (Rhetorical question.) That's an odd name. Interesting that they use "real" Canadian cheese curds. They look delicious!
