Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour is closed for refurbishment. Will reopen around Easter.

Can we please close it forever?

Not old, just vintage.
We can only hope that this will be one of those magical Disney refurbishments that never gets completed and the Backlot Tour just stays closed forever.

I tend to lurk rather than post but I think I need to chime in on this one...

Why??!!

The only refurb they could do to this ride is to re-build a studio backlot. Otherwise what's the point?

I do go on the ride when there, but only because I love looking at the props in the pre load area.

What they need to do is take all the good props (The rocket pack from the Rocketter, etc.) and make a walk through exhibit, maybe with a CM on hand to tell you the background of the prop. Then scrap the original tour totally.

It's a real shame, I loved it when it was a real working studio...

The Backlot Tour will be refurbed and be open until such time as they decide to move ahead with an expansion of Pixar Place. That won't happen until after they eventually go ahead with the MI ride in Stage 1.
Until then, they need it open for capacity reasons. It is a pale shadow of it's former self, but it is quite the people-eater.

True. It does eat people - then they realize what they got on and they suffer the indigestion. "Hey, a backlot tour! Behind the scenes stuff!" "Wait, a truck blew up, some water came down, I saw some costumes in a display and a couple of airplanes? Airplanes I saw while exiting Lights, Motors, Action? Boo...."

We avoid it. More fun standing around waiting for Luxo Jr. to come out and play.

Makes sense from a spreadsheet perspective. But that also sounds like Pixar Place expansion is not happening anytime soon if they are spending money on a six week long Backlot Tour refurbishment.

I'm not a huge fan of Universal parks in general, but my gosh, the 75 minute long Backlot Tour through a frenzied working studio at Universal Studios Hollywood is truly epic and truly worth the price of admission into the park. When WDI was planning DHS in the late 1980's they obviously were using Universal Hollywood as the point of reference there. The DHS tour didn't live up to Universal Hollywood standards when it opened in '89, and it's been a downhill slide into irrelevance ever since.

Agreed. I love that tour.
Even better is the all day VIP tour at Warner Bros. Expensive, but well worth it for a movie/tv fan.
The tour at the Studios was never going to work unless they were able to lure enough production to Florida.

Likely.
Which indicates how much sense it would make to drop the "Studios" from the park's name and just call it Disney's Hollywood.
