Christmas Cheer for SeaWorld; Bah Humbug for WDW

So I came across this wonderful video during one of my random searches (was looking for Inside The Magic Updates)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGw6M-EABxg&feature=player_embedded

...it's from SeaWorld. Possibly the best holiday fireworks in Orlando. Now that RoE's tag has been toned down, nothing can match this. From the "Disney-esque" chorus in the beginning to the projections on the fountains (this can be really amazing if they do full-out projection next year) to the big finale... it's really good. The only thing that we've got on them is the castle... and that's almost enough by Orlando standards...

And they stole "Four For A Dollar" just as a slap in the face. Wow.

Ewww! Not even a Santa Shamu can save SW from being bland and boring IMO.

You can have it snow- real show- and magical elves greeting you when you walk in the park and it still can't come close to the Disney experience :D

As you can tell, I was very disappointed by Sea World.

The SW show was lovely and enjoyable, but not on par with RoE.

But SW has hired a top gun in the business and I'd bet you'll see even better in the future.

And SW keeps ADDING to its offerings, while Disney keeps cutting (even things like pyro in shows) ... and the DoM keep saying 'way to go TDO!'

I still think the edge still goes to both Holiday Wishes and Illuminations. SW's show had some cool effects but nothing we haven't seen from Disney, and WDW's shows still win in terms of length/music/finale.

However, the holiday cuts definitely annoy me. Everyone is focusing on Epcot right now, and their disappointment is justified. Epcot felt like a grinch when I walked through it about 2 weeks ago. The Christmas spirit that I felt in 2005, 2006, and even last year is absolutely gone. And that tacky blue stage for the new show doesn't do the park any complements.

I'm not a fan of the cuts to Wishes or RoE, but the Sea World show isn't in the same league as either of the WDW shows. Nowhere near the amount of pyro and staging, and it's a very generic show.

While I am no expert on pyro shows, I agree Steve and everyone else. Its a nice show, but still no where near the level of pageantry of Disney's shows.

i don't think that display compares to roe...i'm really pleased with the direction that seaworld has taken recently and i hope it continues, especially in it's approach to the holidays...but it will never be able to recreate that disney magic, or an equivalent of...

Nice show. Not thrilling, not magical, but nice. Which pretty much sums up my feelings about SW overall......

No, it isn't thrilling. ... As to magical? Well, it seems to be that if you're a Disney fanboi nothing that happens off WDW property can ever be considered magical.

It's why the fanbois would be foaming themselves into puddles if Disney had been successful in getting the rights to Harry Potter, but since it's going to UNI, they need to diss it.

Or why the Marvel product at IOA was often ridiculed in the WDW fan community, but as soon as the Disney/Marvel deal went publice suddenly folks wanted meet and greets with mutants at EPCOT and they thought The Weatherman was going to head over to IOA with some blue paint to cover the Hulk's tracks since Hulk will soon be headlining a major WDW attraction (do I need the sarcasm smiley?)

There's plenty of magic in the SW and UNI parks. It just isn't Disney pixie dust that's been marketed down the throats of willing fans like Jim Jones and his Kool Aid.

SW provides a high quality park product in Orlando (and beyond) and unlike Disney they are stepping up their game in O-Town and adding reasons, and value, for people who visit.

But some folks see more 'magic' in hanging with characters in Toontown or siiting thru SGE than in seeing SW's amazing shows or riding the best coaster in town or exploring sea life in some great exhibits. I'm a Disney fanboi at heart, but I don't ... I kicked the pixie dust addiction years ago.

Disney-esque because it's Spirit of the Season, used as the introduction and finale of Holiday Wishes, and has been since 2005. It's from the Warner Brothers movie The Polar Express.

Yes, pyro has been cut from the Peace on Earth finale. It is still the most impressive fireworks show to see this time of year.

There was a time not long ago when there was no Peace on Earth finale. Just the regular Illuminations for the holiday season.

It's an off year. Many voices have been heard concerning cuts, both forums posters and average guests. Things can only get so much worse before they get better.

Which is horrible when it happens to a resort like Disney. The number one most visited theme parks in the world. And yet they cut back holidays while Sea World amps it up. Whether you feel it has magic or is equal in show or not is another story. A park really stepped it up. And the one that should always be top knotch gave some bad show and left a lot of fans with bad tastes in their mouth. Inexcusable.

But WDW1974, nobody is saying that they see more magic in Toontown or SGE.

What we are saying is that Holiday Wishes and Illuminations: Peace on Earth are still better than SW's fireworks. This is in terms of length, music, and finale. Even including the cuts, WDW's fireworks shows are way more impressive, and it has nothing to do with being fans.

In my case, I certainly see faults with Disney, but that doesn't make everything at another park indefinitely better.

But by default many on this site believe everything to be worse simply because it is not brand Disney.

Closed minds and small time attitudes.

As a gob shoit said as I waited in the joke of a Q for TT, "its not about attractions its about the magic" well in that case go and see Sigfrid and Roy (if they havent been digested) their shows full of magic, and as many fairies.
