Love Bugs?

 Can anyone in WDW now, or anyone who just got back, tell me if the love bugs have begun to appear yet? I was last down in late September of '07 and they were pretty heavy then. They seemed to peak around the 25th-26th. I'll be back down on October 5th and I was hoping to avoid them or at least have them waning during my trip. Thanks in advance!

I am a couple hours north of WDW in Jacksonville and I have not seen many so far. I have seen a few which means they should be out pretty soon.

:brick: Ugh. Thanks, MY. With two weeks before I arrive, hopefully they'll be dissipating if not all but gone. I heard that they weren't too bad this past spring (relatively speaking).

Uggh- we were also down in Sept 2007 and they were horrible. You can see them in some of our pictures- they were so heavy. Especially in Downtown Disney- it was like a snowstorm of them.

How long do they usually last? I've been down about 3 times during their "mating season", but they lasted longer than the week or so that I was there.

Thanks again, everyone. They don't bother me TOO much, but all things being equal, I'd rather avoid them. I'll be going with a first time visitor, and based on past experience, they get spooked by the swarms.

I saw lovebugs yesterday, but they were very sparse. They tend to show up later in the day and typically in warmer areas. They like to hover over roads (apparently the effect of heat and diesel fumes mimics their natural pheromones ).

It's funny you mentioned this b/c just this morning i saw one and what caught my attention is i was making sure it wasn't a mosqito since my son was in the back seat of the car. I live about an hour from Disney..so far that was the only one I seen...I'll keep you updated if I see anymore.

I didn't have any problems on I-4 this weekend. Normally you drive through swarms of them and your entire car is covered when they're out in full swing. I haven't seen any in Tampa either.
