Today Jay Rasulo announced there will be nearly six acres of hand-carved rock for new Cars Land coming 2012 @ Disney's California Adventure.

The OP may more may not be updated but the thread will always be updated with info, pictures, and construction shots.

While I was looking at the middle Cars Land model at D23 Expo, an Imagineer explained to me that the tallest wall on the rock face was going to be 180 feet high and totally block out all of the outside world from inside the park. She made me crouch down and look at the model from eye level so I could see that the scale model power lines they had at the back of the model completely were blocked out by the tower rock tailfins.

Later I learned that the very nice Imagineer lady I had spoken with was none other than Kathy Mangum, Senior Vice President and the chief creative on Cars Land!

I was excited when I saw her as well! She was in the video they had playing in the background, where all the imagineers are discussing the Carsland models/concepts with Bob Iger and John Lasetter. Such an awesome experience :)

Is the Mater's Junkyard Jamboree attraction still happening? I didn't hear any mention of it in any of the D23 coverage. Has this attraction been cut from the project? :(

Good to hear. Odd that Rasulo didn't mention it, though he did mention the Tire/Saucer attraction, and the concept art wasn't featured either.:lookaroun

If you look closely at the overall project model, you can see the footprints of the attractions. The Flying Tires are by and behind the Casa Del Tires, and Mater's is on the other side of the road from Sarge's Surplus and Fillmore's place. They both look like big circles on the ground.

And I thought this pic is a bit funny, McQueen and Mator heading into what will be Carsland.

it's nice to see things finally taking shape there!

I checked the thread to see if this was posted, but couldn't find anything. This gives a good overview of what Radiator Springs Racers will be like. It was originally posted by Uncle Bob on Micechat, after he talked to an imagineer at the D23 Expo.

Basically, the rundown is that you'll enter through an extremely elaborately themed outdoor queue that will start at the fire house and wind back to the big canyon area tucked behind the front hills. He said there will be a house made of glass bottles and all kinds of cool things the Cars have collected as well as neat water spring features and lots of landscaping. The ride takes you past the big waterfall and inside the show building where you meet the characters and while they drive backward they will interact with you personally. Then you hear about the race you're going to be involved in and they tell you you have to get ready. You go through a bunch of effects rooms somewhat based on Test Track, but much more highly themed and elaborate, then you set up for the race. The race takes you basically on two big laps around the whole outdoor area, the one lap featuring a fast straightaway and the and a wide banked turn and one featuring several bunny hills and a tight turn. Then the climax of the ride takes us diving down a hill into a dark cavern underground. First you pass through an area full of hot springs that give Radiator Springs its name and then into a deeper cavern full of "stalaglights" giant stalagtites that look like classic car lights. It really sounds pretty amazing.
