The user reputation system provides a way of rating users based on the quality of their posts. Users on WDWMAGIC can add or subtract reputation points from other users by clicking the reputation link (balance icon) in the posts. The degree of influence on someones reputation, is determined by how long a voting member has been here, their number of posts, and their own reputation.

User reputations allow you to have a say in which users are quality and which users are not. And in response to user feedback, the forum has the ability to label users for the quality of their posts, as is indicated by their reputation.

This is currently being introduced as a trial, and depending how it goes, may or may not be here to see. I will be interested in hearing your feedback as always. :)

I'm glad you mentioned this, I made a topic on this in the other forum. :) I'll be curious as well to see how this turns out.

Edit-

Wouldn't we have some members who will go around to various people's posts and lower their reputation just to be mean? Wouldn't that be a problem with certain members.

There are lots of mechanisms in place to prevent that kinda thing from happening. But there does remain the possiblity that some people are not going to like the reputation that they may gain. However, it also means that some users will be more wary of the way they behave towards others. So we will see how it turns out.

This is my feeling also. We all have bad days and even though we are able to edit, it will live on (for awhile) in the memory of those who read it. By and large, we are a decent group of people here for one purpose...sharing our love of all things Disney.

Then again I'm sure there will be a few wiseguys in the group, there always are.

What are the various levels of reputation?

I see

"Goofy is on a distinguished road."
"Goofy has a little shameless behaviour in the past."

Are there others to be acquired as reputation points are added (or lost)?

You people in the "Check in to ...." thread - be NERVOUS. Be VERY nervous!

Oh, no. I see nothing but trouble ahead for some members. Me included. Oh, well. If I'm going to be on the "S" list, I'm in good company according to the "Check in to H-E-double hockey sticks" thread.

After using this feature on another board, I've found that by and large it works out pretty well.

One question, though - is there a way to see a list of reputations that you've gotten? I know at least on the other board I'm on, when you add to someone's reputation you can enter a reason, and it's kind of nice to look at that and see what other people think you are doing well or not well - that way you know how to improve in the future. If that makes sense at all! :p

As someone on another board where the rep system is in place, I can say it works wonders towards a better forum. I have changed some ways of mine that got negative reputation, and the same here. Just as a recomendation, don't give rep when you disagree, but when you either like that post or think it offers good insight and is well thought out. You can give negative rep for troll posts, pointless posts, etc.

Do we really need another way to label people? All I see is folks who don't have a "Reputation" like they think they should getting hurt feelings. Just my 2 pennies worth.

I agree with you... better than saying 'I disagree', it should say something different. We can all agree to disagree but it doesn´t really mean the person´s post was not worth it. Did I make sense? :hammer:

Please 'agree' with me..... :animwink:

I love this new reputation system, let's just not give people bad reps just b/c we don't personally like them ;) Even the few people who might abuse this should be countered by all of us responsible people who give good rep points where deserved and bad reps where also deserved. All of us long time users should just utilize those rep buttons pretty regularly--we have the heavy votes that will counter any trolls who come in and vote poorly.

This is a bit frightening seeing as my posts rarely add any substance or insight to discussions. I am, however, comforted by the words of Poet Laureate Joan Jett:

"I don't give a damn about my bad reputation"
