Obama visit, Hollywood Studios Fireworks, and EMH Changes

I haven't started a thread in ages, so I guess I was due to start two today...

Seeing multiple reports across the web that the Studios will be hosting a fireworks show on Thursday at 7 called Rock the Night. Evening extra magic hours have also been added to Epcot and the Studios that evening when neither were scheduled. This all changed today since I checked the hours yesterday for my upcoming visit this weekend. Guess I will get to see first hand if there is any special reason for this.

Thanks for posting this. I've been reading this on other sites as well and am curious to see if anyone here knows more.

(WARNING: DO NOT TURN THIS POLITICAL)

So, it sounds like President Obama is coming to Orlando on Thursday. The changes are indicating that it is possible this Orlando location could be Disney.

I'm sure his children will love it. They deserve to get away from the Washington rat race. I always feel for the children of political figures.

Yea, sounds like the President may be visiting MK and TDO has decided to host EMH everywhere else in an attempt to draw crowds away from MK.

I think you are right. According to the official Disney site (which confirms the Thursday EMH evenings at Epcot and Studios), their calendar is now showing the MK morning EMH on Wednesday morning instead of Thursday, and AK EMH morning moving from Wednesday to Thursday:

maybe DHS should host a fireworks show EVERY night while Fantasmic is down?
It's not a bad idea, but I think the reason it doesn't happen more often is that the fireworks fallout area is basically right where TSMM is. It's an area that wasn't originally open to guests, so they didn't worry about that kind of thing. They don't want to shut TSMM down to run fireworks, but it would be cool to see a fireworks show there more regularly.

I don't know why they wouldn't just shut the MK down a bit early and let his kids have the entire park to themselves. Would probably be safer.

If this is in fact true, this must present a security/ logistical nightmare for the Secret Service. Is there precedent for a sitting President visiting WDW while other guests were in the park? I can't think of any from my lifetime, which admittedly only goes back as far as the Reagan administration.

Should be interesting. I have read on another site that the President may possibly be speaking at the Comteporary Resort. It just so happens I am arriving at Bay Lake Tower Thursday and am wondering if check-in and such will be the same or what will happen if he indeed is going to be there. I am still hoping to catch the Electrical Parade at MK Thursday night since it is going dark for awhile while Frontierland undergoes some concrete work.

I feel that if it was indeed the President, then the information would be out there. I'm hearing that it is possible that the first lady will be visiting with the kids while he is speaking. However, if he has to be in NYC by 4pm that day, I wonder why they would be making so many changes for the evening. Adding EMH at two parks doesn't really seem to make a ton of sense to me if his schedule seems to be what it is.

My guess is the extra magic hours are in place in case the first lady and the Obama children decide to take in the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. That would be the only reason i could see having extra magic hours at the other resorts.
