Good hotels near Uni?

We need a one night hotel near Universal. I don't want to pay the extra money to stay on property that night before. What are the best hotels around there that cost less than the Uni hotels?

The Double Tree is nice and within walking distance.

There is also a nice Hyatt Place and Holiday Inn Express (with a TGI Fridays) just across the street from UOR (walking distance).

Both of the hotels Disneyhead mentioned are good, and the Double Tree is also a fine hotel. The Rosen Inn down the road on International Drive is incredibly cheap for the location, but it's also fine.

I've stayed at the HI Express, it's clean and functional from what I remember. ( the bathroom was a tad yuck but that's a different story)

I stayed at La Quinta for HHN 22. It was pretty nice, except there was some sort of Latino dance party going on throughout the night...

Where are you walking to get to Uni? Is it along that highway (or what looks like a highway)?

I like the Hampton Inn closest to Universal.
