Moleskin? Blister protection! Where to buy?

15 days to go, woohoo!

I've looked locally for Moleskin (is that its actual name??) and can't find it. Am I looking for the wrong thing? Is there a comparable item I can easily find at Target, or (gawd, if I must) Walmart?

My shoes are well broken in, but just in case, I'd like to have something handy! Bringing an extra pair as well...and sandals!

Ok, the band-aid blister block I use is different.

The stuff I use is little padded things. You put them on and they stay on for days...through swimming, walking, showering, etc. they're very cushy and protect your feet.

I've also found that if your feet even begin to twinge, you should immediately leave and get those feet into the pool. Nothing will better prevent a blister from rearing its ugly head faster than a pool. But you have to keep them in there for quite a while.

That's the kind we use. It looks like a large waterproof band-aid with more cushion.

If you know where your trouble spots will be, which you'd learn form one walk in your shoes (I think), you can put the stuff on before you have a problem. That's how I did it.

I can never find moleskin either. We use the Band-Aid brand blister pads if we get a hot spot on our feet and they seem to work well. http://www.amazon.com/Band-Aid-Adhesive-Bandages-Multi-Day-Protection/dp/B001E96LIG

We're also big on "rotating" our footwear in order to prevent blisters. We wear good sneakers with moisture-wicking socks for heavy-duty morning touring. After an afternoon nap/swim break, we change into supportive walking sandals (Tevas, etc.) for the evening.

Thanks again- got paid today (WOOHOO) so I'm going to pick up my last few things after work and then I'll just have to wait... ugh, 12 days!

I've decided on my laced Sketcher Go-Walks (LOVE them), Reebok runners (They're super light weight, forget the exact name) and my non-laced pair of Sketcher Go-Walks as well.. plus flip flops for the pool. They're all lightweight, made for jogging and walking... and all are comfy enough for day -long wear.

Now, to just find my favorite brand of socks and buy a few extra pairs... I'm ready!

I use gel moleskin pads. They adhere well to my heel [I have a skin graft that blisters badly if I walk a lot] and protect perfectly.

Now this is a new product to me! Had no idea they had "advanced" moleskin. While I think I still would like the blister band-aids better, this sounds like a far superior product to the plain ol' moleskin.

It's basically the same thing. They came out not too long after the band-aid ones.

I like the band-aid ones a smidge better, but that doesn't mean they are better.

IMO, both are better than the moleskin.

Moleskin is actually a very common, OLD product that works VERY well. Been using it since about 1970, and heard about it in backpacking books like "The Complete Walker". It served me VERY well on several back country pack trips in Yosemite - and Sandy & I carry the simple little sheets & a small set of blunt nose scissors on EVERY WDW trip.

I was referring to this gel moleskin - that is new. I find regular moleskin fairly worthless. Sticks too much to the blistered skin, but not enough to surrounding to stay on properly. Not to mention you do really need scissors to use it.

Any drug store or grocery store has it.

My suggestion? Start walking a LOT now. Start drinking lots of water in the days leading up to your trip.

Get your body used to walking 3-4 miles a day.

Hydration is the key. If youre thirsty, youre already dehydrated.

Oh the airplane anxiety- I have flown ONCE- needed a few cocktails once I got on the plane. Good thing I live in Florida

I used bandaid blister block- kind of like a anti friction stick for your feet. But if I were good socks and properly fitting, supportive shoes, I don't ever have a problem. If I know I will probably get wet, definitely it's crocs- I will take ugly over pain any day

I use the band-aid blister blocker stick too. It's like a tiny stick of deodorant and its little enough to be easily carried to the parks in case you start to have a issue during the day. You're supposed to use it before you actually have an open sore though. I've seen it at Walmart and Target before in the band aid section. Highly recommended!!!
