What movies do you love, but that no one ever talks about?
You know...the ones that don't have any theme park attractions, and aren't the first...or even 10th movie that comes to mind when you say Disney Movie.

I am not talking about the ones that no one else seems to like except you...that's a Guilty Pleasure Film, and deserves a different thread...

I mean the ones that were critically acclaimed...had great reviews, made some money, and then were promptly forgotten about.

I am thinking animated, or live action with animated parts here.

The ones I adore?
Bolt (which sadly had so little merchandise!)

The Rescuers and The Sword in the Stone. These are not only my favorite underrated films, they're on my list for top favorite Disney films.

Hey, mine too! Great minds think alike. :D

If I had to make a top ten (and really, there's alot, especially when everyone and Disney only ever talks about Pixar, Pirates, Purchased and the Diamond/Platinum titles).

- Something Wicked This Way Comes
- The Sword and the Rose, The Fighting Prince of Donegal or many of the live-action British productions that Walt made
- The Rescuers Down Under
- Pocahontas
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame (yes even with the poor comic relief)
- The Happiest Millionaire (watch the uncut "Roadshow" edition)
- The Rocketeer (though this one has improved its image quite a bit in recent years)
- Newsies (it has it merits, really! The Broadway hit has it roots somewhere)
- The Black Cauldron
- Return to Oz

Then there's the list of titles that people generally like, but need more exposure like Great Mouse Detective, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Never Cry Wolf, Tex, Summer Magic, Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Candleshoe and so on.

Edit: Forgot about Treasure Planet. May swap Rocketeer for it.

Yay!!! You're right, great minds do think alike!;)

And I agree with the rest of the films you mentioned. We have the same tastes in film.:)

More great picks!

I loved the Sword In the Stone as a kid. And yes, it definitely is underrated...as even I forgot how much I like it!

And Treasure Planet is pretty awesome (my favorite screenwriters!)I don't remember it being very well received in the theaters. Which is a shame, because it's so fun.
I also have to include Hercules...as a recent forgotten gem of a film!

I consider Hunchback a guilty pleasure..because I can't find too many people who actually like it. And it's certainly not a perfect movie. But it has so many cool and awesome individual elements that work...

I was trying to limit my list to just animated or live action with animation.

But yeah...the Rocketeer is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Keep 'em coming!

Oh I forgot, Who Framed Roger Rabbit! Love that movie!
I find it so incredibly sad that this film has become underrated. It is so brilliant.
I remember it being huge. A huge presence in the parks, and on "great movie" lists everywhere.

Recently I mentioned it to some friends of mine (in their twenties) and they had no idea this movie existed, or what the heck I was talking about.

No matter how many times I watch Roger Rabbit, this one scene is still weird to look at
