You can turn on the laptop, but in my literally hundreds of flights over the past 5 years (let's say around 300 flights in that time), I've been asked to turn on my laptop zero times.
You also have to look at often they see laptops. In this day and age I would seriously doubt that a single US flight goes up without at least one laptop on board.

The same is not true for game consoles. It would not surprise me if only 1 out of 4 TSA agents could even identify a game console.

In regards to how often they check, my wife has flown a grand total of once since the TSA existed. On a flight from Iowa to Florida she was required to turn on her laptop in Iowa and her connection in Atlanta.

You can easily turn on a laptop and show that it is a working laptop. You can't really do that with a console. All the TSA sees via x-ray is a plastic box with a bunch of electronics inside which usually equals cavity search.;)

I knew a guy in my company who used to travel with an Xbox. This was probably 8 or 9 years ago at this point. He said he never had issue with except strange comments from the TSA.

I used to carry a gaming laptop with me in addition to my work laptop and other than comments from the TSA that amounted to "you're a nerd", it was fine as well.

Wow. Guess she doesn't like flying.
We are both fine with flying, we just don't really need to all that much. Neither of us have to for work and we tend to vacation in Florida making driving the best option.

We also actually like to drive and do a little exploring when we travel.

My only real problems with TSA were a couple times we traveled with the breast pump while my kids were nursing. Sample conversion:

Male TSA agent: "What is that?"
Me: "It's a breast pump"
TSA: "A what?"
Me: "It's a pump. My wife (point at her) is a nursing mom."
TSA: "Looks like it has a motor."
Me: "Yes. That's necessary to make it work. Would you like me to turn it on?"
TSA: "What's the motor for?"
Me: "Needed to generate suction."
TSA: "What does it suck?"
Female TSA Supervisor: "What's going on?"
Male TSA: "That thing. It has a motor."
Female TSA: "Go ahead, sir. Sorry for the confusion."

I am going off third hand info. I know a few that travel with a consoles and they say it is about a 50/50 shot that the agent will wave you through or question it.

I think we can all agree that not all TSA agents are created equal. Some have common sense and some, well....we wonder how they make it to work without serious injury.

To be fair, the Jerry can of diesel you transported with it for the motor was a little odd...

Too funny. My wife went with a manual "hand pump" for our suitcase for just that reason.

Me too, until I think about it.

People bring books to WDW. We see WDW resort guests at the pool all the time reading a dumb stupid book that you can literally read anywhere. What foolish schmucks, travelling all the way to Disney World to do something they could've done on the toilet at home.

I'm dyinnngggg...hahahahahhahaha

Online wouldn't be a problem, but there are just so many things to do in the evening. I know the villas have some "hook ups" plus I'm sure it would depend on where you're staying! I know when I have traveled with teens, they like to stay late night at the parks, especially the extra magic hours. There's also downtown disney bowling ( Splitsville) unless you're trying to save a little $$$.

Yeah ironically they used to boot up check electronics all the time around 2000... But I haven't seen it done in well over a decade.

I think the explosives wipe check must be the replacement

The simple answer is yes. The parent in my asks WHY? This is Disney World. Onsite and the level of trust of the teenagers, I would give them free reign to go around property as long as they stay together and had phones.

I unfortunately (or fortunately) bought a PS3 for my daughter (9) so she could play Disney Infinity. She has no interest at all playing video games. She prefers to be outside playing. So, I have a PS3 that collects dust. I may just go and sell it next week at the garage sale.
