Worst Era of Disneyland

Is it actually returning, or are people just extremely pessimistic about the state of modern Disney? There's certainly no shortage of people/fans/"fans" willing to take outrageous leaps in logic based on the most minor of events.

Not to say there's no reason to be pessimistic, mind. But let's not pretend that there aren't huge numbers of Disney fans on this sites and others extremely focused on myopic grievances that fail to take into account the bigger picture, thus overexaggerating the flaws of the current era and dismissing other eras that were just as bad or worse in the process.
This forum (and the other older Disney forms, for that matter) has always lived in a bizarro world where it’s unanimously agreed that everyone hates the newest additions. And when it’s proven that no, that’s not true, the response becomes “oh todays guests are shills/dumb/easy to please.”

EDIT: Also, a sleeper hit for worst era to visit — the first 15 years. I would LOVE to see the original Disneyland in the flesh and all the attractions that are now lost in time, but in hindsight and with modern expectations, it was probably not the most enjoyable park.

I was on this board all the way back in 2003 and this wasn’t the case. There was excitement for most new projects. People today don’t like many of the new additions because many of them are legitimately subpar.

Pressler era sounds like the worst, but I’m basing that purely on things I’ve read (I only visited WDW during that era).

There’s still so, so much to love at Disneyland. Maintenance has declined and CMs are openly miserable. We lost Splash. But we’ve been spared the monumentally stupid decisions that have damaged WDW the past decade or so.

Though to be fair it was genuinely like that in the mid-late 2010s, but by now we’ve been proven right; there really has been almost nothing but garbage after a certain point. Basically for years this site was crying wolf, so when we got legitimately sucky additions nobody took us seriously.

I never recall an era of Disney fandom where there was NO pessimism and no one doom and glooming about how the best days were behind the parks. I started reading boards like these in the mid-aughts; granted, that was MiceChat and it took me another decade to find this site. This place was DEFINITELY more chill and positive almost 10 years ago than it is now, but even then I don't remember everyone being on the same page and thinking everything smelled of roses.

Things have definitely gotten worse, both in terms of pessimism and Disney's own choices, but if there ever was an era where everyone was generally positive in Disney theme park online discourse, I missed it.
