Wild Africa Trek Promotional Shoot- Sept TR Part 2

So if you read my trip report "I didn't get married, but I won the lottery and took a walk on the wild side at WDW!" you know that my friend Autumn and I got picked (along with another family) to particapate in a promotional shoot for the Wild Africa Trek at the Animal Kingdom Park during our recent trip. Basically, they took us on the normal trek, but had a photographer there and we had to sign papers saying they could use our pictures for promotional purposes (and we wouldn't sue if we got hurt). Well, they said we should be getting a CD of the photos taken in the mail in about 6 weeks, but they came yesterday (2 weeks later) and I wanted to share them with you all.

I have no idea what photos they will use or how or when, but I thought most came out pretty good. We got 200 photos, though I know they had more. I'm actually disappointed one of the pictures I posed for didn't make it to the CD. Now I know we all gave our permission for these pictures to be used, but I don't feel very comfortable posting pictures of other people, but mostly other people's childern so I'll keep the pictures of the other family to a minimum.

So without further ado...

Our First Group Photo. Autumn and I on the far right. The other family in the middle and "Disney People" on the left. The promotional guy who offered us the experiance is the guy in dark green in the back. Not sure who the rest of them were.

There is a max of 12 trekkers on each journey, so the 11 of us plus the photographer was 12. Then we had 2 guides.

WildAfricaTrek002.jpg

Yeah, that woman we're all trying to scare is one of our guides.

WildAfricaTrek003.jpg

WildAfricaTrek004.jpg

That thing in my ear is an ear piece so I could hear both guides as we trekked alonged. At this point we were walking along the Pangani Trail and we were a "large" group. It was nice to not have to worry about crowding around so we could hear. We could do want we wanted and still listen.

Can you tell I was just a little hot out there?

We stopped to learn about the hippos skull and teeth.

Next up the rope bridges...

For someone who is afraid of heights, this portion of the trek was terrifying.

WildAfricaTrek026.jpg

WildAfricaTrek029.jpg

So the other family had their grandmother with them. She was a little nervous of heights too. After I saw her go out there I got a sudden rush of bravery and decided I wanted to go next.

See me in the background.
WildAfricaTrek053.jpg

Yup, terrifying!

WildAfricaTrek057.jpg

WildAfricaTrek059.jpg

Those harnesses were not flattering AT ALL, but at this moment I really didn't care. I pulled that thing so tight around my legs I'm surprised I didn't do damage.

WildAfricaTrek060.jpg

I knew the second Autumn got on the bridge with me, though I didn't stop to look around like she apparently did.

WildAfricaTrek062.jpg

This was my stance most of the time on both bridges, tight hold on ropes with head down. Except for when they made me stop and pose.

WildAfricaTrek063.jpg

I didn't do much for posing. I was holding on for dear life.

WildAfricaTrek064.jpg

WildAfricaTrek066.jpg

I had no idea she did that, but its a great pic.

WildAfricaTrek068.jpg

They were rocking that bridge like crazy and having a blast doing it.

WildAfricaTrek069.jpg

WildAfricaTrek070.jpg

WildAfricaTrek072.jpg

I really wasn't photogenic during this.

WildAfricaTrek077.jpg

WildAfricaTrek078.jpg

This was taken as the other family below were yelling words of encouragement at me. They were making me laugh.

WildAfricaTrek081.jpg

Notice the hungry crocs below.

With that my bridge time was over. Yay! I did it! :D

Thanks for sharing this! :)
My Wife and I are going on the trek on our 30th anniversary the 29th of this month. You looked like you had a great time.
Do you think you need to take a camera with you or are the photo Disney takes are all you need?

Thanks. It was kinda cool to look down and see the hippo and crocs, but scary too. It was great to see them from a different perspective, but I couldn't enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing this! :)

I did take my own camera, but I was the only one. They have you put all your stuff in a locker before you go out. You even have to empty your pockets. If you do bring a camera it must have a wrist strap on it so they can hook it to your harness. I think you should take your camera, but I didn't use mine a lot. I used it most during the part in the truck and at the camp. If you don't I think the pictures Disney takes are great, however, they don't give you all the photos they take so that's the down side. However, you own whatever photos they do give you and you can do whatever you want with them.

Wonderful pictures, I'm not a fan of heights either but I'd love to do that! That's a great accomplishment to do something like that

I'm actually kind of jealous of how good Autumn's picture came out.

This looks like a staged photo to me, but it's not which makes it that much more funny. It's like 'Hey, look at each other and pretend the food is really good.'

I hate my smile in this one. I must of had food in my mouth or something.

Here come the Rhinos! I love telling people about our Rhino "attack". You have funny or weird encounters with the animals on the Safari, but I've never had a family of Rhinos come running right at the truck. Then run back and fourth and all around the truck, it was honestly the best part of the trek for me. For Autumn it was the scariest, she seriously thought we were gonna get rammed.

Wow! What a nice bonus, great photos! I did check out Amber's new footwear, love the looks on your face on the bridge and I think I'm in love with the baby Rhino.

Yeah, I fell in love with the baby rhino too. He's so cute.

Whoa - great rhino pics! What kind of snacks did they give you?

We had an African themed meal. Dried meats, curry chicken salad, shrimp, hummus and pita bread, fruit salad and cucumber salad served with smoked salmon (though I think it was more raw than cooked). We had a mixed tropical drink to go with it (orange, gauva and something else). It was decorated with an edible flower, it was all good. I didn't try the flower though.
