why the hate about the new entertainment?

Pretty much everyone knows by now about the live entertainment changes being made at Epcot soon. The interwebs is in a uproar over Off Kilter being replaced. My question is why are those who don't approve of the new entertainment feeling the way they do?

I personally aren't upset. A guy in a Disney podcast I listen to put it best by saying "Disney is not a museum" meaning that aging attractions or in this case live entertainment who have had a good run don't have to be kept around just because they've developed a small fan base. And I say "small fan base" cause lets face it most the people who visit these parks wouldn't remember some of the small live acts they saw on their last trip which for a lot of families was maybe years ago. Disney still needs to grow and change as the years go on.

The new shows being put in Epcot to me sound appealing especially the folk music being put in England. Still curious to hear WHY though some people are as upset as they are.

Because for some guests seeing their favorite band at Epcot for the last 20 years is as much a part of their WDW trip as seeing Cinderella Castle or Spaceship Earth.

I do not have that attachment myself, but I certainly understand those that do.

I can see that. I've been going to WDW since I was 10 years old. I'm in my mid 20's now so I've seen Off Kilter ever since I started going. I personally can't wait to see a new act at that spot though. A breathe of fresh air.

Eh, if you saw Off-Kilter during your formative years, or have a crush on one of the musicians, or a fondness for Celtic Rock, then you are understandably upset.

Do you mean that one can scarcely clamour for quicker replacement of entertainment and complain about staleness in one thread, and then cry foul about WDW actually adressing these points in another?

Two main reasons:

Epcot needs a lot of updating, especially in Future World. The world showcase acts are nowhere near the top of most peoples lists as to what needs updating.

And the new acts are most likely cheaper to operate than the old ones. All speculation, but the fact multiple are closing at the same time highly suggests it was a general "Take your highest cost shows and replace them" type of thing. How good they are remains to be seen. Cheaper doesn't necessarily mean worse, but it still remains to be seen. If I was forced to make cuts in entertainment, that's probably what I'd do.

Have any of the ones being replaced been there for 20 years then? To be honest, even for the acts involved - that's an awful long time to play one act in the same spot.

I think as long as they are replacing in the same ratio as taking away, then it's no big deal.
People complain that Disney isn't giving anything new recently....then when they do some still complain. I agree that there probably are more pressing areas of concern though. I also prefer to see an additional attraction rather than a replacement, but it is sometimes necessary.

I think that sometimes relates more to the fact that in recent times, there have been very few additions, only replacements. Something has to close, to then be replaced for re-themed.

This.

People confuse the 2. Epcot is stale because they don't add new attractions. The entertainment at Epcot (and the food) are the only things it really has going for it. Not to turn this into a Disney vs. Universal thing, but this is the KEY difference between the 2. When Universal closes one attraction (which they do, and have closed favorites of mine), they always equal with the replacement, or better it. Disney goes backwards. Look at Epcot:

Living Seas to Nemo = Loser
El Rio De Tiempo to Grand Fiesta Tour = Loser
Horizons to Mission:Space = Loser
Spaceship Earth 100% to Spaceship Earth 75% = Loser
Wonders of Life to nothing = Loser

Test Track was the only thing they replaced something with that wasn't a bust, and that's arguable as World Of Motion was fantastic.

A lot of it has to do with nostalgia - I have been seeing that for XX years since I was YY years old - A lot of it has to do with taste, I personally prefer the new Fiesta to the old boat ride, and there are some people who just won't admit that Disney ever does anything right, if they updated a parade to shoot out a fountain of gold coins into the onlooking guests as it went down the street they would be very upset about how much the coins hurt when they hit them or about how much the shiny gold made the whole park look cheap and like Six Flags.

I'll miss the WS players personally, but hope they do a good job with the new performers coming in.

If I hear Carl and Philip are doing some kind of act in Universal I will be making a special trip. Of everything being replaced WS players are what I'll miss the most.

Absolutely. It's understandable for people to complain about the changes when they are losing something important to them.

What I don't like/get is the sniping at other people who don't share the same sentiment. It's fine to be ed that Off Kilter is being let go; it's also fine to be okay with the changes and intrigued by the new options that are coming.

Off Kilter is already kind of stereotyping Canadians. Changing them out with a Limberjack act???? I am already offended and I have no idea what the show will be.

I love Off Kilter and World Showcase Players. I am trying to figure out a weekend trip before they are gone.
