Why isn't Paint the Night returning to DCA?

My biggest issue is that 'Dreamers of all ages' sounds significantly less formal than 'ladies and gentleman boys and girls'. I'd like to at least pretend Disneyland is still a respectable endeavor.

I'm not seeing the whole park needs to have the level of refinement Club 33 does, but having hints of formality in the offerings helps make the experience feel more premium.
I appreciate your opinion, but we're not in 1955 anymore or even 1972 when the parade was first introduced. The world changes and so must we as a society.

In order to prevent this from becoming a long drawn out debate. I'll just say again that I appreciate your opinion and that you can always listen to the original soundtrack on your phone while the parade is going, that is if you're actually even going to the Park to see the parade.

This is the point where I’m at as well. As lovely and charming as Disneyland once was in its mid-20th century days, those days, for the most part, are gone. And I think to expect for those elements to stay the same is an unfortunate waste, given that the park has not been that way for many years. As you stated, this isn’t the 50s, 60s, and 70s anymore. That kind of decorum is no longer a thing within American society, let alone at Disneyland.

I used to wish for the same, but I had to be realistic and come to terms with the fact that things are different now.

I wonder if it would've ran longer if Tom Staggs didnt leave.
Tom Staggs, lover of parades! Is that why in the 5 years he was in charge of parks and resorts, more parks permanently lost parades than ever before?

Truthfully Tom Staggs would have nothing to do with a decision like this.

I mean we got Festival of Fantasy & Paint the Night during his run, he definitely played a role in planning the 60th.

I’d say he played a role in announcing the 60th but yeah I don’t work there so I don’t know for certain how much he was involved.

Disney keeps saying MSEP will have a limited run. So there’s a chance they may have plans to bring back PTN after, or 2023.

I'm excited for the MSEP to return this summer, but Paint the Night is my favorite. I've heard it's expensive to run (which I don't understand), but are they just afraid of not enough of an audience for it? Help me understand! I hope it's not scrapped forever...
You answered your own question. Because MONEY.

This was the rumor I heard around the various sites back when it went into hiatus. The rumor was they were trying to rework it so they could bring it back safely.

However given there is a union involved I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't approve the changes and that is what has lead to the permanent hiatus.
Most of Disneyland’s entertainment isn’t part of any union, specifically character and parade performers.

I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that most of the dancers in the parades were under the AGVA. Like I said I could be wrong, just basing it on previous conversations.

Anyways, overall the rumor was still that a majority of the PtN performer costumes were causing injury which is why they had to rework it and why it went into hiatus. Its possible they couldn't rework it in a way that was safe, so just kept it in permanent hiatus.

But as I've always said Disney is the only one who knows why its not running PtN, and they ain't talking.

I’m starting to believe that Disney never had intentions on running PtN too much past the 60th.
Which would just be ridiculous of them given how much money it cost to create and how popular it was. There is a part of me that wonders if they are squeezing the last little bit out of MSEP that they can and then there will be a new marketing push in a year or 2 around the return of PTN...or we just get MSEP one. more. time.

That would be nice if it turns out to be true. Although, I wonder that if they’re just waiting for a couple of years to bring PtN back, how that may look for the 75th (or maybe even the 70th, which we’re only three years away from). The 75th is now eight years away. I would love for them to return PtN now for a few years, then create a new night parade in the time between now and 2030. Doubt that will happen, though.

Nope, parade performers are not under AGVA. This is how Disney keeps them underpaid.

At this point many would gladly accept any version of PTN but it will be a shame to see it return with, most likely, downgraded costumes when Hong Kong is able to use the original ones with no issues. That we know of at least. Of course only those aware of the past and Hong Kong’s version will know the difference.
