"Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2" - Imagineering a new movie

I have been hearing rumors of Robert Zemeckis bringing a sequel to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" to life. Of course, we all know that it's just a rumor so until I hear something new, it'll remain just that: a rumor.

But now, let's suppose they came to us for the sequel. I figured it would be interesting to create a possible sequel ourselves.

The new movie is set a full decade after the events in the first movie. This means that where the first movie is set in 1947, the new one is set in 1957, during the advent of television at home and, at movies, gimmicks like 3D, Cinemascope, Vistavision and stereophonic sound.

Anyway, Roger has been convicted of assault on Baby Herman (but of course he is not the true culprit) and is quickly held on trial, after which he is sent to Horkpuckle Avery Prison. Also, all bets are off when the Toon Patrol weasels return from the dead and are out for some not-so-sweet revenge on the ones who did them in. And this time, they have a whole army of weasels at their disposal.

The number of Toons from the original movie will be greatly increased here, since it's set after 1947.

For some of the new characters, here are some ideas: a Chinese stuntman named Fung Kwee (I'm thinking of having Jet Li portray this part), who may or may not replace Eddie Valiant in this movie. Another new character here is the new boss of Maroon Cartoons, R.K.'s son, R.K. Maroon, Jr. (portrayed by Willem Dafoe). Yet another new character is Kwee's girlfriend Mei Lin (portrayed by Tia Carrere). The plot features Kwee trying to break Roger out of the slammer and rescue Jessica from the weasels, who reveal who their new boss (and also this movie's villain) is.

The new movie will pick up from where the book-only entitled "Roger Rabbit: The Resurrection of Doom" (which you can read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Rabbit:_The_Resurrection_of_Doom) leaves off. In that story, C.B. Maroon, who is R.K., Sr.'s brother, takes over Maroon Cartoons after Judge Doom did in his brother in the first movie. Somewhere between that story and this movie, C.B. gets killed. The true reason how he was killed will be a mystery until further notice, but many people speculate it's due to a car crash (think the truth of how Harry Potter's parents were killed). Now R.K., Sr.'s son and heir to the family business, R.K., Jr., takes over the business now, in conjunction with Cloverleaf.

I also have a few ideas for new Toons, including a '57 Chevy named Jenny whom Benny the Cab falls for (a la Herbie the Love Bug falling the Lancia Scorpion in "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo") and a dog named Norty, whose name, voice and personality are all inspired by Ed Norton, a character on "The Honeymooners". His voice would sound something like Daws Butler would do.

What do you think? Would anyone like to help me, please, with more ideas?

I know it's been well over a year now, but I think it's time to revive this thread. I have another idea: the villain would be accompanied by not only weasels, but also by various cartoon villains out there (think "Looney Tunes Back In Action"). What do you people think of that?

Roger Rabbit was fun and innovative because it was a Disney movie with non-Disney characters.

A.K.A the Looney Tunes.

Besides, you have the 90's Disney characters now...

And you should include Ludwig Von Drake.

Also, WE ARE GOING FOR HAND DRAWN ANIMATION, NOT THAT CGI THING.

Well, the thing is, '90s characters and even Von Drake would be a bit anachronistic. It will take place in 1957, ten years after the events in the first movie.

Anyway, listed below is a list of all of the cameos of the Toons to appear in the new movie. All of the Toons from the first Roger Rabbit movie will appear in the new one we're thinking of here. Here is a link to the list of Toons who were found in the first Roger Rabbit movie: WFRR: Cartoon characters in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

Anywho, here it is now, the list of Toons who are not in the first movie but are in the second movie. And it's not just characters who were made after '47 and before '57, but also some characters who were made beforehand but were scrapped, and also, yes, some anachronistic post-'57 characters. Alright, here it is now, the list of all the Toons who did not appear in the first movie, but will appear in the new one...

Disney
  • Huey, Dewey and Louie
  • Chip 'n' Dale*
  • Scrooge McDuck**
  • Ludwig Von Drake**
  • Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore
  • Humphrey and the other Brownstone bears
  • Susie the Little Blue Coupe
  • Geppetto
  • Figaro
  • Timothy Mouse
  • Thumper and Flower
  • Willie the Operatic Whale
  • Brer Rabbit
  • Brer Fox
  • Bongo and Lulubelle
  • Johnny Appleseed
  • Pecos Bill
  • Widowmaker
  • Ichabod Crane
  • Cinderella
  • Jaq and Gus-Gus
  • Fairy Godmother
  • Lady Tremaine
  • Anastasia and Drizella
  • Alice

  • Michael Darling
  • John Darling
  • Captain Hook
  • Mr. Smee
  • The Lost Boys
  • Lady and the Tramp
  • Jock and Trusty
  • Winnie the Pooh**
  • Tigger**
  • King Leonidas**
  • Elliot the Dragon**
Warner Bros.
  • Elmer Fudd*
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Gossamer
  • Pepe Le Pew
  • Witch Hazel
  • Rocky and Mugsy
  • Michigan J. Frog
  • Sylvester, Jr.
  • The Three Bears
MGM
  • Tom and Jerry*
  • Barney Bear
Paramount/Famous Studios
  • Popeye*
  • Olive Oyl
  • Bluto*
  • Swee'pea
  • Wimpy
Walter Lantz
  • Andy Panda
  • Chilly Willy (mentioned in WFRR)
Terrytoons
  • Mighty Mouse
  • Pearl Pureheart
  • Oil Can Harry
Other
  • Felix the Cat*
  • Krazy Kat*

* = Denotes characters who was absent from the first movie for any reason
** = Denotes anachronisms (i.e., characters made AFTER 1957)

So as you can see by the list above, if we were to take this list of Toons and merge it with the one of the Toons who appeared in the original Roger Rabbit movie, we'd have quite a cavalcade of stars here, wouldn't we? But that's what I want to do here, to take the Toons from the first movie and the ones that appear only in this movie and merge them all here at once. That would make for a HUGE cavalcade of cartoon stars. Anyway, what do you think?

Hanna-Barbera characters should be included, as well. You forgot the Fab 5, Bugs Bunny, and Daffy Duck.

That's just the list of who is new to the new movie. The link in the post above shows the semi-complete list of all the Toons in the old movie. They will all be in the new movie. Go here to see the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Who_Framed_Roger_Rabbit_characters#Cartoon_characters_that_make_cameo_appearances. That's the list of all the Toons from the old movie. They will all be in the new movie.

We should also add Dudley Do-Right, and Snidley Whisplash.

Well, we can't just keep adding new Toons right and left. Some of those Toons were anachronistic (that is, didn't exist yet) in the 1950s, and I want to go easy on that. Yes, some new Toons that will appear in the movie are anachronistic, if you would see by the list above, but I'm trying to pick and choose carefully and not go overboard.

Me and some buddies of mine wrote something like this on a bored afternoon. It's 1957, we threw the whole anachrostinic thing out of the window by explaining that the characters created later already existed, they just didn't have a job back then. It is a mix of the "Roger gets arrested" story, with some bits from Resurrection of Doom.
