I have been hearing rumors of Robert Zemeckis bringing a sequel to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" to life. Of course, we all know that it's just a rumor so until I hear something new, it'll remain just that: a rumor.
But now, let's suppose they came to us for the sequel. I figured it would be interesting to create a possible sequel ourselves.
The new movie is set a full decade after the events in the first movie. This means that where the first movie is set in 1947, the new one is set in 1957, during the advent of television at home and, at movies, gimmicks like 3D, Cinemascope, Vistavision and stereophonic sound.
Anyway, Roger has been convicted of assault on Baby Herman (but of course he is not the true culprit) and is quickly held on trial, after which he is sent to Horkpuckle Avery Prison. Also, all bets are off when the Toon Patrol weasels return from the dead and are out for some not-so-sweet revenge on the ones who did them in. And this time, they have a whole army of weasels at their disposal.
The number of Toons from the original movie will be greatly increased here, since it's set after 1947.
For some of the new characters, here are some ideas: a Chinese stuntman named Fung Kwee (I'm thinking of having Jet Li portray this part), who may or may not replace Eddie Valiant in this movie. Another new character here is the new boss of Maroon Cartoons, R.K.'s son, R.K. Maroon, Jr. (portrayed by Willem Dafoe). Yet another new character is Kwee's girlfriend Mei Lin (portrayed by Tia Carrere). The plot features Kwee trying to break Roger out of the slammer and rescue Jessica from the weasels, who reveal who their new boss (and also this movie's villain) is.
The new movie will pick up from where the book-only entitled "Roger Rabbit: The Resurrection of Doom" (which you can read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Rabbit:_The_Resurrection_of_Doom) leaves off. In that story, C.B. Maroon, who is R.K., Sr.'s brother, takes over Maroon Cartoons after Judge Doom did in his brother in the first movie. Somewhere between that story and this movie, C.B. gets killed. The true reason how he was killed will be a mystery until further notice, but many people speculate it's due to a car crash (think the truth of how Harry Potter's parents were killed). Now R.K., Sr.'s son and heir to the family business, R.K., Jr., takes over the business now, in conjunction with Cloverleaf.
I also have a few ideas for new Toons, including a '57 Chevy named Jenny whom Benny the Cab falls for (a la Herbie the Love Bug falling the Lancia Scorpion in "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo") and a dog named Norty, whose name, voice and personality are all inspired by Ed Norton, a character on "The Honeymooners". His voice would sound something like Daws Butler would do.
What do you think? Would anyone like to help me, please, with more ideas?
