Whispering Canyon v Liberty Tree Tavern

We re visiting Disney in Nov. and are planning our meals with our dining plan. On our second day, we visit MK and we are thinking of visiting perennial favorite Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner or trying first time Whispering Canyon for lunch. Any thoughts on which you'd prefer?

We are going with another couple as well, let's call them Bossypants, and they want LTT and aren't budging. We think it might be nice to break up the day, take a boat ride and visit a new restaurant and check out the wilderness lodge while there.

As an aside, it should be noted that Bossypants has already dictated our staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter and the ordering of our park visits and all other meals for the week. Since Bossypants are prone to temper tantrums and giving the silent treatment (our last trip to a park they took off on their own 5 mins after arrival leaving us and 10 others to enjoy each others company without them - I think they just used us for a ride) we are not looking to make waves, just be able to list the pros and cons.

The obvious answer is for each of us to do our own thing that day but we'd prefer not to.

We'd appreciate any thoughts as to why you'd choose one over the other.

First question...Why do you take vacations with the BossyPants crew? They sound like a major drag!

Anyway

I like both the LTT and WC. If you've never done WC I would say it's defintiely a great Disney dining experience you should try at least once.

You know what I don't like. Bossy people who want to control my vacations.

There are two ways to go about this if you're not willing to separate: Just keep bossypants quiet and go to the LT; It's a great place no matter what. Or, force them to go to WC and deal with the tantrums; they may be pleasantly surprised.

Me, I would say that if you have been there enough and are ready to try something new, split up and do your own thing. If they are planning everything about this trip already, you may just need that kind of a break from them.

Otherwise, do the LT and plan for the WC on your next trip. and if you are going with bossypants again, you tell them that right away and stick to your guns. Just remember, it's your trip too.

I think you would enjoy WCC. Maybe you can sway BossyPants by talking up the Christmas tree and other decor at Wilderness Lodge as partof the reason for going there for dinner. Good luck!

Thanks all....let's try to look past Bossypants controlling nature and let's focus on WHY we can make the argument for Whispering Canyon.

Whispering Canyon!!! Liberty Tree is very good but why not try something different! I have never eaten there for lunch but dinner is excellent - I'm sure lunch is excellent as well. Maybe other posters can comment on their lunch meals.

Thanks all....let's try to look past Bossypants controlling nature and let's focus on WHY we can make the argument for Whispering Canyon.

But isn't Bossypant's controlling nature really the core of the problem? They've choose where you're staying, what parks you're visiting on what day and what restaurants you're eating at?
Shouldn't a discussion about simple compromise be enough to get you a dinner at WC!????

Ok -Ok - I'll get off the soapbox - I just don't like bossy, temperamental people...I like them less on WDW vacations.

Here's a few for your "our side of the argument" list .

  • LTT, although very good Americana type food (on par with WC) Isn't the unique "Disney" that WC is.
  • WC has delicious refillable Milkshakes
  • WC is a borderline dinner show were LTT is just a meal.
  • WC has barbecue.
  • If you eat WC you will NOT run out of KETCHUP!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps....Enjoy your vacation!

I say WC. I too love LTT, but taking the boat over to WL is an experience in itself. Also, seeing the Christmas tree in the WL lobby is awesome. I don't know if this matters to you or Bossypants, but lunch at WC is quite a bit cheaper than dinner at LTT.

Whatever choice you make, enjoy!! :)

Could you do WC for dinner? The atmosphere is very different and it's worth a try. We find WC extremely loud so be prepared for a lot of clowning around while you eat. You may not want to cause a rift with "Bossypants" since it might be uncomfortable going your own way for meals but remember, it's YOUR vacation too and YOUR hard-earned money. So, my Dear Abby advice would be to try to work it out first and if they are still not budging, do what YOU want and they'll see that they were being stubborn and probably pick up drinks the next night. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I think you should not travel with the other couple. That is my best advice!! It will get worse when you're there!

That said, I agree with the Bossypants. Leaving a park to go eat somewhere else sucks up a lot of time. WCC can be an excellent meal, but it can also suck. And everything in between is likely, as well. Not worth all the time.

LTT is usually good. A lot of people say it "reminds" them of a frozen dinner because they advertise that part of it is Stouffer's. Let me assure you, all the restaurants have freezers and are serving frozen stuff, some of which the same folks who put down LTT are raving about. The idea that only LTT serves frozen food is laughable. LTT just advertises it.

LTT is as good as WCC and will save you time.

WCC does have antics, though. If you're dying to see them, take a break from the Bossypants and go there. In fact, you all should schedule breaks from each other. It will make for a much more pleasant vacation!

Sometimes, when people ask for ketchup, they have all the kids bring every bottle in the restaurant to that person's table.

Other times, you ask for ketchup and they bring you a bottle.

There is no guarantee that asking for ketchup will get you anything more than ketchup.

Thanks all...I appreciate luv's flip side of the coin. We've made our decision. Bossypants are one of our favorite couples to travel with so it's all good on that front. We just needed thoughts on what whispering canyon would offer since we had never been.

That's all part of the "dinner show" I was talking about.....If you ask your server for ketchup..They'll yell to the dining room for ketchup and every kid in the place will get up and go get every single bottle of ketchup that's in the dining room at the time....which is residing at....you guessed it...the table of the last person who asked for ketchup.

I think it would be great for you to try a new place, but I am not sure how that will be possible, it bossypants wants to eat at LTT and you aren't willing to separate from them.
