Which resort is this?

OK, I tried this several months ago with no success, so I'll try again...

Back in the Spring of 1995 I was at WDW on a school trip. We went to a place to eat and hang out for a while and I would like to find out where it was so I can go back if it still exists. Per some of the replies before, this place is not the island adventure tour/walking trail thing that is now long gone. We drove there. I am assuming it was a resort but that is not necessarily true. Here is what I remember:

There were large, covered pavillions for eating, possibly adjacent or near to a parking lot, since we drove up to the place in our charter busses

There was a little beach of some sort

There was a pier/dock type walking trail over the water where there were trees and some fish, etc. This was a system of connected piers. It was not on land.

It was within earshot of live music, maybe coming from PI, maybe across some water

Some of the people serving us the food, a BBQ type deal, may have been dressed up like cowboys.

I know some of you serious Disney fans can help me here. Last time I think I gave some bad info and caused everybody to go off in the wrong direction.

Sounds like the Backyard BBQ if you ate outside, and the Hoop-de-doo review if you ate inside and there was a show. The walking trail on a boardwalk along and over the water that you describe is at FW in the Backyard BBQ/boat dock/beach general area (walk to the beach, and hang a left, if memory serves).

The live music would have been from Pioneer hall or a program at FW. Driving up in the buses is a bit confusing, as that part of FW is generally only reachable by WDW buses or boat.

Another place at WDW with a pier/boardwalk like you describe is at Port Orleans-Riverside (formerly Dixie Landings), but I don't think that would meet your other recollections.

It may have been FW. The live music I heard from afar was definitely rock/pop type music. I don't know if that helps. There were not any characters there.

Try going on AllEars.Net They have a boatload of pictures there with resort maps. You may be able to look through all of them to see if you can find the one that sparks the memory.

Really, really long shot--could it have been Mickey's Retreat, the Cast recreation area at Little Lake Bryan? Sounds like it fits the description. Not sure when Mickey's Retreat opened, and whether it was used for special Guest events before it became Cast-only.

1. Fort Wilderness
2. Wilderness Lodge
3. Saratoga Springs

These are my guesses.

It's definately not Saratoga Springs as that opened only a few years ago, and he's talking 1995.

I think it's Fort Wilderness, but there is another possibility. There is an area down by the Marketplace that has/had a long series of interconnected piers/ boardwalks. And that might even account for hearing loud music (possibly from PI).
