Where should I put my Disney park??

So I've been wondering: where oh where could I put my Disney resort? I've tried some possibilities here. I was thinking back to my idea for a German Disney park (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=108577). But I've decided to abandon it for the time being because I was told that Europe was simply too small a continent to merit a second Disney resort. The France park was having troubles as it was and another Disney park in another European country would not help matters much.

So, I've got to ask, where oh where could I put my Disney resort? One possibility is in South America (either Argentina or, more likely, Brazil). The other candidate for me is Australia. The only problem with that one is an inadequate population.

So where do you think I should put my park? Just so you know, I'm steering clear of North America and Asia (both of which already have TWO resorts each) and the Middle East (not one of the friendliest places to be right this moment). So where should my resort go?

What's wrong with Europe? I'm a Brit and, although I love it to bits, the 9 hour flight to Florida is a killer! IMO, Paris was a bad place to put DLR. They don't have the weather, the people are not so nice and the park just doesn't compare to WDW. It's just not the same!

However, I believe that the south of France is lovely! Alot warmer, the people are lovely and everyone I know who has been there can't wait to go back! Plus, I could get there in a few hours!

So count me as a vote for Southern Europe!

I know you said you were shying away from North America, but I think Alaska would be a kickass place for a park, and not just because I live here. It's a top tourist destination, climate is very pleasant, and it is highly accesiible to the cruise industry as well. Having a "Disney Arctic Adventure" with a snow castle or something would be pretty cool.

I've been thinking a Disney Resort somewhere in a colder region would be interesting, obviously making considerations for the type of ride that is available - i.e. enclosed, non-wet rides.
It'd be nice to see real snow covering a castle. A fully enclosed water park. A winter sports resort. Things like that which are different to what Disney is doing, but not outside the realms of possibility.

I like India as a possibility. Obviously theres a big push to make Dubai a big tourist destination, so there are a ton of places!

Ooh! A snow castle! I'm loving that! A winterland would be fab! All glittering lights!

Oh, I'm withdrawing my Southern Europe vote and going with Alaska! I can just imagine how pretty that castle would be!

what about in Africa somewhere, like South Africa, or on the norther west side close to Spain. then you could still look into some of the Europe Population too.

Brazil could be really cool, I don't know alot about Brazil, I wish I knew more, but it could be alot of fun.

Argentina could be a good south American location, around Buenos Aires, which I don't know to me has a fun and exotic feel to it.

I decided to try again to go for Berlin, Germany as a location. I got some ideas and shared, but I was faced from admittedly legitimate concerns of why it would not work. For one thing, it's too close to Paris, and for another thing, it gets too cold there for tropical plants, like those in Adventureland, to survive the climate.

I'm also not sure a South American location would really work. What should I do?

Honestly have you ever been to South Africa? A Disney Park in South Africa is an absurd idea. The crime rate is insane. The population, with the exception of many whites and a small black middle class is far to poor to afford even a single day ticket. No sane manager would build a Disney Park there or in Africa in general.

pffffff

Wait, you're right. Silly me.

If you want to make a park on South America, it has to be on Brazil. Reasons:
- Excellent climate
- We are very nice people, different from what most people say about us (*cough*Mr Stallone*cough*)
- Biggest country on the continent
- Richest (can't confirm that) on the continent
- GIGANTIC Disney influence over the people
- Most of us Brazillians would rather go to Disney World than to Europe. If you want to depend on locals, do it in Brazil.
- Great tourism.
- The 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics would really be a great time to introduce the park to the world.
- Did you know that when Disney made a Promotional Parade on Sao Paulo, one of the biggest cities of the continent, the parade itself made the traffic on the ENTIRE city to stop?
- You would completely destroy the theme (if you can call that) parks over here. We have one near Sao Paulo that's a -COMPLETE- rip-off Disney, one in the south that was based on Disney.
- We never had something like a Disney park over here.

And more. Really guys, open your eyes, get the hell off Asia and see you got a REALLY BIG public that would pay you 100 dollars to get on a Disneyland Brazil.

Yes, I did notice that a parade was in the area. And I wasn't even planning on Asia at all.

I'll also say that Brazil would be your best bet. I think that North America, Europe, and Asia have all met their quote of Disney resorts, but South America doesn't have one anywhere near it!

Brazil is a huge country with a huge population (fifth-largest in the world, in fact), and the economy is developing very rapidly, so that things like Disney vacations and other "luxuries" will be desired very soon by much of the population. China is like this as well, which is why Iger was so eager to get a resort in Shanghai. With all the other Latin American countries around it, A Brazil Disney resort would have the potential to serve all of South America's population as well. And if WDW is any indication, Brazil already has a very large Disney fan base. ;) I'm kind of surprised Iger hasn't looked into a Brazilian resort, to be honest.

I'm thinking Rio would be your best bet, seeing its population and that its already sort of the tourism center of the country. Sao Paulo could work, but it strikes me as simply too urban and business-centered. I think Brasilia might too far isolated, and from what I've heard the city empties out when their congress isn't in session. Or perhaps you'd like to find a whole new area, like they did with Orlando.

I also think a Brazilian Disneyland would be the most exciting and interesting challenge for an armchair Imagineer. No Disney park has been interpreted for a Latin American audience before, in the way TDL and TDS were designed for the Japanese, and DLP was designed for Europeans. I wonder what a Latin American resort would be like? Adventureland would probably be different, since the park is already set in the environment much of it is based on! Is the idea of an American Main Street relevant or nostalgic in South America? What sort of castle would be best? All interesting questions. Since beaches are so popular in Brazil, you might consider getting a waterfront property and incorporating the beach somehow in the resort. (Surfing lessons with Stitch?) And imagine what the Carnival parades would be like...

Sorry, didn't mean to steal your project. I'll let you make up your own mind, but you know what I'd pick. :animwink:

Gotta agree that even though Africa is one of the few continents without a Disney resort, no country in Africa is ready for one quite yet. South Africa or Morocco would probably be the most likely, but I think South Africa's still having issues with crime, poverty, and AIDS. Maybe a few decades down the road, prospects will have improved.

Well, I don't know about the beach. When Walt chose sites for WDW, he wanted to keep the resort well away from the beach because he didn't want any competition.

I don't know how we could do any of these things for a Brazilian Disney park, to be perfectly honest.

If you want any advice about how we react to certain things, you can ask me, I live there! :ROFLOL:

Anyway, I would like to say a thing or two. Our past history was no different from USA's history, except for a thing or two: here, people got rich with cities, and other stuff. The "main streets" of Brazil are less like Marceline's main street and more like... this:
http://spantiga.folha.com.br/images/sao_paulo-01.jpg
http://spantiga.folha.com.br/images/sao_paulo-02.jpg
http://spantiga.folha.com.br/images/sao_paulo-03.jpg

Antique streets over here took a lot of inspiration from European architecture.

As for a city, Rio and Sao Paulo are two options- even though Sao Paulo is very urban, its surroundings are not. However, Rio has a lot of beaches, so thats though competition for your park.

As for the Adventureland problem, I don't think there's anything wrong with what Disney has for their own Adventurelands. Sure, we wouldn't see things like the Jungle Cruise...

But the cultures here change a lot. Here in Brazil, most of the people under the D-Influence (Disney influence) don't know about the more obscure movies like Ichabod and Mr.Toad, and even Sword in the Stone. And it's even more rare when people refer to Space Mountain as Space Mountain and not "Aquela montanha-russa no espaço" (that rollercoaster on space). Most of the brazillian tourists don't know that there is a Disney Park in California.

Maybe for Main Street, I will revive the original concept for Paris' Main Street, which was to be themed to the jazz era in the 1920s. Where Adventureland, if we didn't have things like the Jungle Cruise, how would it be like other Adventurelands out there? And what of Space Mountain?

Most of the things represented in WDW's Tomorrowland would really work over here. Now for the Jungle Cruise, you can make something -like- it.
