When you book a 1 bedroom villa through Disney....

That's interesting. I wonder why that is. If it meets fire code on points, it should meet fire code on cash.

Most of the time it has nothing to do with fire codes and is just hotel policy (4 is a good random number with 2 beds to stop a spring break mentality). We are a family of 5 and sometimes have to call a hotel and not book on-line as the web site won't allow 5 in a room. We never have a problem after calling direct. There are actually many blogs and web-sites that address staying in hotels with three plus kids. I recall one woman calling the local fire Marshall when told of the "fire code" rule then called the hotel back and had no issues after that.

What about 1BR units that you can book for 5 people on points - such as VWL. If he books with cash can he put 5 in those units?

If it's a One Bedroom Villa which truly only SLEEPS 4, they will only book 4 guests on a cash reservation. This would include Saratoga, BoardWalk, Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge. DVC allows members the one extra occupant but that courtesy is not typically passed along to cash guests.

Resorts like Old Key West, Bay Lake Tower and Animal Kingdom which sleep 5 with the twin convertible chair should be allowed to book 5 guests on a cash basis as well as DVC points.

I think the policy has to do with expectations for the cash guest. Have you ever made a hotel reservation only to arrive and find that the room doesn't have enough sleeping capacity for your entire party? Hotels don't typically accept a reservation for 5 occupants for a room that has one King bed and one Queen sofabed. I guess they expect DVC members to be better aware of the limitations and prepared to adapt.

That does make sense. It's done more for PR and avoiding misunderstandings, than for safety reasons.

I agree with this. My only issue is worrying that I'll run out of the shampoo/conditioner, what with the long hair and all. :D It's been okay so far though...and certainly is a small price to pay when you look at how much money renting points saves.
I forget how much it costs, but for a few extra bucks you can purchase a toiletries package. That includes I believe extra towels and shampoo/conditioner.

We stayed at SSR last Nov and found housekeeping, as C-Kidd pointed out, for a one bedroom villa isn't all that necessary (We rented points from a friend). You have a washer and dryer and vacuum. A place to drop your trash. You can easily get towels etc. Extra laundry detergent, if brought to your room by request, will be charged to your room. As will extra coffee and cream. But those last two items you should buy on your own anyway.

Hey, Master Yoda. I thought you only get housekeeping in DVC resorts every four days. Do they do it every day?
We have stayed as paying guests several times and yes the definately come every day just like any other room. Only if you are DVC or rent points do they only come every 4 days unless you pay to have them come every day which is an option for DVC members. :)

1 Bedrooms at Bay Lake Tower and Animal Kingdom lodge may have 5 registered guests regardless of points or cash.

If you stay 8 days on points, you get a Full Service on Day 4 and a Trash and Towel on day 8.
