We're going to be in Orlando exactly one week from today! Since it's the week before Memorial Day Weekend, I'm trying to get a sense of how busy it might be in the parks (particularly MK). Does anyone have any ideas? We're tentatively planning to go to MK Sunday or Monday and then park hop the other day.

Does anyone know when WDW officially begins the summer season?
Some Cali schools (LA) are getting out two weeks early due to budget cuts.
Do you think as soon as next week? I'll be there starting a week from today.
Well, my kids' school lets out next Friday, and they're in one of the bigger school districts in Georgia. I'm sure others will let out around the same time. But we've been to WDW right before (and after) Memorial Day, and found the crowds quite manageable.
Save, of course, those at DHS for Star Wars Weekends.

There are some schools that let out mid may in the south, but the crowds are quite manageable. You may encounter some crowds towards the end of the week, but nothing like the summer months or during the holiday season.

The school districts in Volusia and Flagler Counties, respectively, get out during the week of June 4-8 (Flagler gets out on June 7; Volusia, where I go, gets out on June 8).

Some Louisiana schools get out May 18th and some May 22nd depending on your parish.

May 25th. A big Disney birthday party for two out of three sons (One is turning 16 and is autistic and one is turning 8). Then early the next morning, we leave for DISNEY.....We have done this for last two years at this time of the year. Crowds are moderate to high at times. You just need to know where to go at what time. :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Yes, our kids are getting out May 18th. We will be at Disney starting May 19. Ours is the earliest that we know of, but other districts nearby in Ga. and Sc will be getting out a week or 2 later. You should be ok crowd wise, until memorial day weekend when it gets really busy.

The Louisiana parish(Red River-northwestern part of the state) where DH and I teach gets out May 18th. We are heading to WDW May 19th as the following week is the only free week we have before summer school starts. According to past Disney crowd count data, we should be okay the week following Saturday May 19th. I also am baseing this on the fact that DD's CM card, that allows her to get family members in for free, does not have any time in May as blackout days. Their blackout days are during their peak crowd days (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and June and July, etc.).

As a school teacher, these two forum questions make me giggle a little: when does school get out and when does it go back in session? The answers to both are: it depends on where you live! School is out as early as this coming Weds (16th) in some places, and as late as mid-June in others (we're out June 14th). Some schools will go back as early as the first week in August, while others don't start until the traditional day-after-Labor-Day.
Every school in the country has between 170 and 180 school days. How they take them is dependent on local, county/parish, or state laws. Some schools take a lot of time off during the school year -- a Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, every Monday holiday (and then some), and other non-Monday holidays. Others take very little so that they can start later in the fall and end early, before Memorial Day.

School may not be out yet, but this is field trip to Disney World season for local Florida schools.

Well for the Northern Folks in Massachusetts and Connecticut, our kids don't get out until Mid- June. My kids don't get out until June 18th this year. We're having them miss the last day and go to Disney World instead.
