When do you decide it is time?

I just wondered when most people decide it is time to go visit the mouse.

In the past we would start planning about 1 year in advance, we would go just about every other year.

This year we were in November talking about setting up to go at the end of 04 but most likely in Jan. 05. Somehow I talked my wife into go at the end of this January back in November. Just about 2 months from start to finish.

Because it was less of a build time, I am getting the feeling "wow I can't believe I will be flying to WDW in 2 days". I always had that feeling when we would go, but this time it is really heavy becuase even though we planned it in about 2 months, it was still spontaneous for us.

Does anyone else feel that way when the are leaving, the "I can't believe I am really going" feeling. And what is your usual set up time?

We started planning on the plane ride home! (7/10/03)

Officially I made our reservations for this Christmas in Septermber. Unfortunately though you have to go back later to get flights. Especially if you do all of this through Disney's website.

I guess it's never too soon!

The calendar tells me....every summer we visit Mickey for 3 weeks. But, next year, I'm hoping I can convince the family to stop in Honolulu on the way to Orlando.

It's not really a need to plan for me...since i'm an AP an all....so all I've gotta do is book a hotel room! I usually do that about a week or two before the monthly trip I take (though this month i've taken 3 trips), my next trip is in 9 days but I still haven't booked a room. Even though I frequently visit, I still get those "I'm going to Disney World!" jitters!:D

I start planning the second I get back!!
I get the "jitters" when the tickets arrive in the post or when I change some £ to $, it is part of the holiday, having all the build up to it.

We usually start planning our next trip on the plane home. However, if my wallet would support it I think every 28 days would be a great idea!!!!!

:D :sohappy:

For us, it's less then 2 months of planning. We have our own business so we can go when ever. Well, not when ever. We have a printing business in a small town. So we print for a couple of dirt circle tracks in the area in the summer. If we go anywhere, it's from middle of Sept thru March.

Only 10 more days until we see Mickey Mouse. :sohappy:

Hm, my Disney Team has a very volatile schedule -- it's a rare occasion when we make concrete plans more than a month in advance. We usually don't reserve rooms until a week in advance. Sometimes I wish our plans were more elaborate, but then again the flexible, ad hoc Disney adventures are also fun. Unfortunately, they're also shorter.

What do you prefer?

[EDIT: Oh, as for discussing our next Disney trip -- well, we start before we even leave Walt Disney World ... just like everyone else here, I assume :p]

Several people answered similarly but yours was the one where you go the most frequently.

How do you afford it to go multiple times a year? Any of you I mean. I wish I could, but can't.

Lie, cheat, and steal. Or find some hotel discounts. I'm very fortunate and thankful to have parents who work for the airlines, and the WDW resort usually offers excellent discounts to airline employees. Moreover, transportation isn't a major issue, since I live in the vicinity of Atlanta. Aside from taking short, frequent trips to Disney, another cash-saving tip is to spend a day outside of the parks, enjoying the 'Disney atmosphere'. It's fun exploring the model homes in Celebration as well as the shops in Downtown Disney.

As for finding free time to go to Disney -- there's an issue that has been troubling me lately. I've been considering driving down for just a weekend to enjoy the resort for a few days, without even visiting the parks (though I doubt I'll be able to resist).

Actually, it's really not all THAT expensive if you know how to do it. I always go during the off-season when the hotels are the cheapest, and I can get the all-stars for about $85 with tax. I don't know how it is for other cities, but I can fly ATA from Chicago to Orlando for about $175 round trip...and if you buy an annual pass, you are all set. If you are planning to go at least twice a year, and stay for about 4 or 5 days at a time, its worth it to save up and buy an annual pass...that way you are set for the rest of the year! Believe me...I am ANYTHING but wealthy, but if WDW is important enough to you....you will find a way! :animwink:

ONLY 29 more days til I see the mouse! :sohappy: Hurry hurry.....I need my WDW fix!

It became a routine for me to go in December. And even though I have said oh can't go back this year, gotta save money, somehow I end up in Disney in December for 4 years in a row now.
Last trip, we set up less than a month before the trip. It was great not having to wait long!

We usually pick our next trip within a few days of returning home from the current one. That date usually gets changed around a few times but it gives me something to look forward to!

Oh yeah, and whenever Disney announces an armed forces salute!

Quickly planned trips are fun, less time to wait and all, but for us the anticipation is a big part of the fun!

23 days by the way!!!!!

Well, seeing on how we are not going until November 20, 2004, and we started planning the trip in December, I would say the James's would recommend 11 months. Of course, it is always nice to do planning in the Winter as there is not much else to do.
