At this point, plans are very vague. The new stores and restaurants will likely be phased in over the course of a year or two. Major work probably won't begin before January.

Unfortunately once the clubs at Pleasure Island close this whole area will become nothing more than a generic smorgasbord of chains stores and restaurants all of it without an ounce of uniqueness. It's too bad, but it is understandable why Disney has decided to jump on the outsourcing bandwagon. Why should Disney pay for employees, inventory etc to run a club or two when Burger King or aabercrombie and fitch will gladly come in and not only pay rent on the spaces, but they'll also share a portion of their profits with you. Closing the clubs is just the beginning, blandness and sameness have become the operational buzzwords within Disney management. Proof of which is evident when you go into any of the parks souveneir shops or any Disney Store in the country where all you'll see is the exact same items in each of them. What you won't find is any unique resort merchandise, no unique park merchandise, no lithographs, no animation cells, adult clothing, or movies nothing. Instead you're stuck with Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers and/or Rock Band, and that's all folks. Entertainment options are being cut almost yearly and very rarely are they replaced.

This unfortunately is a trend I fear will continue unabated into the foreseeable future.......

TRUE...How long before DTD gets a "Gap and a Starbucks"

I don't think that will happen.

Look at the diversity of Downtown Disney, it is NOT your average shopping adventure.

I feel confident that they will continue to offer quality and unique shopping experiences.

While I'm certainly not happy about the PI closure, I see no reason to harbor resentment towards what they may or may not do in the future.

Its just sad that Disney has to change an area that was unique and different, but thats progress, I guess and they know what there doing. I do hope that whatever they do is something more than a mall.

What? Harbor resentment? Who does that? Not here, not ever! :lookaroun :p

I'm looking forward to see what the changes bring. Anything to spread out the crowd would be welcome.

That's somewhat eerie.

We we're taking bets on what over saturated brand was most likely to move in first Sunday morning on the bus ride back to the hotel and we were all split between Starbucks and the Gap. Both of which the "Disney After Dark" groupies loath and take every opportunity to mock. Personally I put my money on Starbucks because I can't believe they don't have a shop there yet.

... oh ... I just realized that there my be very few "Disney After Dark" trips now! Pleasure Island was always the main part of the impromptu trips and we always ended at the Adventures Club on the planed trips.

The only reason I mock those two companies is when I was in Paris a few years ago there was a "Gap and Starbucks" on the Champs-Elysees. Just thought it to be rather humorous.

Wouldn’t it be a slap in the face if the Hanes t-shirt factory (I think that is what it was called) was built on the sight the Adventures Club now occupies? :fork:

I would love to see some sort of announcement that private club establishments were to move in...like the popular clubs the Light Group runs in Vegas. This would allow for the feel of a nighttime club district to remain but allow the financial goals attained from outsourcing as well. One can only hope.

So far whats been said of going in there is a latin american restaurant that they will be adding a balcony over the lake for live music in the brown building next to the PI water taxi line (which is closed for the time being 3 boats for 2 docks no wait to go from marketplace to west side) but yesterday they already started putting a wall around the building so looks like works gettin started soon.. the customize your own t-shirt hanes store, the giant tethered balloon taking guest 300 ft in the air should be cool, and what i was told by management was a sky diving simulation will be put around planet hollywood, whether my manager confused this with the tethered balloon is possible but they do have this somewhere close by in orlando an is which he related this to

The Hanes t-shirt shop is actually going to be more on the Marketplace side in the scrapbooking shop so I guess it isn't going to be taking the place of anything in PI.

I hope something interesting comes in replacement. I've noticed though that even when they DO outsource, what gets outsourced is still pretty unique. I mean, how many McDonalds are like the one in DTD, or have a PLanet Hollywood that's actually shaped like a planet, and the Virgin Record Store? That thing is HUUUUUUUUGE and has such a great variety of stuff. Doubt it has New York's adult section though :p
Anyway, I honestly didn't actually care that they took out the nightclubs because quite frankly, not only did they not have anything that really intrigued me, (I'm not traveling all the way to Disney World to go to a night club, people) but by the end of the day at the parks, I was WAY too tired to want to go to a night club anyway :snore:
