What's on your playlist?

What are some of the songs on your playlist? What kind of music motivates you during runs?

- Back in '06 they played music from a rare import CD called "Hyper Techno Disney" throughout the parks during the marathon - popular songs from Disney films remixed to a dance beat.

Man, that is an open ended question. That would take me awhile to list all my playlist on my ishuffle. Ill just list my top 3 artist to run too.

Shiny Toy Guns
30 Seconds to Mars
Ozzy (new and old) and Black Sabbath

But recently in the last week, I have found running to musical scores to really get me in a zone. I enjoy anything from Hans Zimmer. So I might ditch the tunes with the in and outness of songs and go for more a constant musical score combination for the W&D.

The Cup of Life from the 1998 World Cup (Ricky Martin)

The catch phrase "Do You Really Want It?" motivates me to keep running.

I've also recently added some musical scores and classical music. Yep, I love John Williams too. Raiders and Jurrasic Park themes have made it to my "running" list. I also like Hans Zimmer stuff and James Horner. Some classical music also helps me get into a "mental zone" and I've learned to appreciate some great music.

Always looking for more...

Was listening to my iPod during my run the other day and Queen, 'One Vision' came on. Great beat, great song. Started thinking about...what was that movie that had it...was it "Iron Eagle"? Anyway, found my new power song.

I miss Freddie Murcury...:(

Another great artist...if you are looking for songs w/o words...is Joe Satriani. I highly recommend "Surfing with the Alien." Great song from a great album...or cassette...or CD...whatever.

You sound like my husband. He loves running to musical scores. I, on the other hand, need lyrics to take my mind off of running. I listen to Muse and the Arcade Fire a lot while running.

For short runs, Ill either go musicless or Ill just have a normal type playlist with my favorite artist.

Short runs are what they are and not long enough to get into the rhythm of a long score.

Well, I don't listen to music on my runs (Joel aka jamaxwell, and I discussed this once before) but I do plug in my iPod in the car or at home and listen to stuff before runs just to break the silence...I have unusual tastes...

Genesis (the heavier stuff)
Huey Lewis and the News
Robert Palmer
Tool
Nine Inch Nails
Talking Heads

I can do the bolded. :D (Favorite Genesis album is Invisible Touch)

I love music diversity, but contradict that with I have a lot of diversity in music, but there is some music I just cant handle.

Thanks for the replies. I read an article a few years ago about a research study that determined a specific BPM (beats per minute) that would produce the ideal running efficiency. Then they selected songs that matched the beat - some strange choices - I'll have to see if I can track it down.

I've also read more recently several runners, prior to this thread, who run to classical music or musical scores. After reading some of the posts, I think I'll give it a try.

I rarely listen to music while I run, but I had the nano with me this morning for the 11 miler. It's funny that you mentioned the BPM, because I certainly felt like my cadence was matching up with some songs better than others. "Vertigo" by U2 and "Morning Glory" by Oasis seemed to be ones that clicked best with me this morning.

For my "Chris' Exercise" playlist, I have about 4 hours of music that I shuffle. My life soundtrack seems to have been set in large part during my college years, so a lot of my playlist is based on rock/alternative artists that were up and coming during the early to mid 90's. The primary exception is U2, by far my favorite band of all time, which I have been a huge fan of since 5th grade (other than, ironically, during the mid-late 90's, but I'll forgive them for Pop and Zooropa). As I recall, this morning's shuffle featured:

U2 - (Vertigo, No Line on the Horizon, Magnificent, Pride, New York)
Oasis - (Morning Glory, Live Forever, Acquiesce)
Mattthew Sweet - (Girlfriend)
Ben Harper - (Burn to Shine)
Gin Blossoms - (Lost Horizons)
R.E.M. - (Superman)
Lenny Kravitz (Are You Gonna Go My Way)
North Mississippi All-Stars (Hurry Up Sunrise)
Drivin' N Cryin' (Lost in the Shuffle)
Hoodoo Gurus (Bittersweet, In the Wild)
Live (Sanctity of Dreams, Heaven)
