What happens to Osborne Lights if Carsland comes to DHS?

When I read this possibility, my first thought was "Will New York Street have the same fate as Residential Street?" and if it does where will my favorite part of Christmas at Disney World go?? Would they keep NY Street/Streets of America and do Carsland behind it? Do you think they would really get rid of Lights Motors Action after such a short time or would Catastrophe Canyon "bite the dust"? Help!! I love my lights!!!

Why does it seem like when Disney is going to expand or add something to its parks something has to close? It would be nice if we expected the park to expand somewhere rather than giving up something. I wouldn't want to see the little backlot area go away either.

If CL comes to DHS,(and hopefully that's a "when", not an "if")... the Catastrophe Canyon area would be on the chopping block...not NY Street. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not entirely convinced that CC even has to be chopped. Based on the background of Cars, it should be able to fit in fairly easily, but you are correct that NY street is in no danger. What is likely to deservedly disappear is the Backlot tour or as I call it the "Notalot Tour".

I think they need a mix of replacing older rides that are not as popular and adding new things. I am a realist when it comes to the economics behind the parks. They cannot just keep adding indefinitely without either substantially raising prices or finding another way to cut costs. One of the major problems WDW has with adding new attractions is that fans are very attached to the current rides. When they did FLE I heard a lot of negative feedback about closing Snow White even though they were adding something new and better. With Universal they chop existing rides and add new areas (Jaws closed to add Potter 2.0) and nobody cares. WDW has such a nostalgic appeal they can't really remove or in some cases even upgrade older rides without fans having issues. In my opinion one of the reasons for the issues of the last decade at WDW was over development in the 90s that left the world stretched thin and over developed. With the economic downturn they had a harder time maintaining the status quo since they were so bloated. At the end of the day if we want something new we have to assume they will cut at least some current attractions. For Cars I have not heard mention of NY street going anywhere. LMA, the backlot tour or both could go. If NY Street went they could always move the lights somewhere else. The lights started in Arkansas And moved to the swamp so they can be moved again. Someone else suggested that if the entire Radiator Springs was built they could put the lights up in the town.

I cared. Very much actually :( Jaws to Universal was like Pirates to Disney IMO. The difference is Universal doesn't let their attractions sit long enough for people to build an emotional attachment to them. Both parks take two totally different extremes. One's not better than the other however, both have their pros and cons.

This is my impression as well. I don't think Streets of America are on the chopping block.

Also, FWIW, if Carsland (in full) were added to DHS, it is possible that the town of Radiator Springs itself could be used to display some of the lights.

Most of the highly controversial attractions that cause things to get in a bunch, are the ones that Walt had a hand in designing. Anything at Universal is just a copy of something else, nothing original. CoP, PoTC, HM, SW, CBJ and Tiki are the sacred cows at Disney. Everything else is free to change or at least not cause a near riot if they do.

Loved it when the whole backlot was lit up and u were able to walk around at night. Have hot coco and marshmallows. It was very magical.

I don't remember them lighting the whole back lot... Did they really do that? Dang, I would love to see that. Anyone have pics or vid of it?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the lights go somewhere in Downtown Disney if the Streets of America are done away with. WDW won't need to attendance boost during the holidays (if Carsland is there) and they could use the lights as a way to draw people to Downtown Disney to help with their "reimagining" of it. The lights themselves are not profitable, they have just been a way to bring people into a struggling Hollywood Studios the last few years, so I wouldn't think Disney would have a huge problem "giving it away" should they not need them at the Studios anymore.

I would doubt that the streets of America will be changing anytime soon. Even if there is some sort of expansion in the Backlot/LMA area. Nothing to worry about.

I would hate to think the lights are even on a list.
