What does the future hold at animal Kingdom after avatar land?

What kind of future plans does Disney have for animal kingdom going forward after their success with avatar land? Is it possible that we can see the world of Wakanda with black panther at AK? Are they having any other new projects on the horizon as well at animal Kingdom? Will this be the next part they work on after they finish with all the changes at The studios and Epcot?

My bet: 20-50 years out the animals are gone and the park is themed to something else (Nature Kingdom - NO ANIMALS!)

With protests and people thinking, "Having a poodle is keeping that dog in captivity and you're a horrible person!" it's only a matter of time until that hits AK hard enough for them to make a transition. Add into it that keeping animals is expensive and not keeping animals is much better on the bottom line and it won't take long until you land on: don't keep the animals.

If you're thinking, "Oh, that's impossible!" Look at what happened to Ringling Bros & Barnum Bailey Circus. They slowly got rid of the animals until it was elephants and tigers and maybe a stray dog that could wear a funny hat and bark on command. Then they got rid of the animals... Then they got rid of the circus.

Star Wars had a bunch if creatures in it. Maybe we could have a land with a Jedi temple that houses an attraction where you are a youngling learning about creatures as part of your Jedi training.

They didn't "get rid" of it. Taste change, they things folks liked on 1960 are not what folks like now. Attendance at RB had been in decline for a while. Yes, they had ongoing battles with animal rights groups but they also had high operating cost and shrinking audiences.
Zoo's have also change

Finally build fantasia/mythical land with Dueling Dragons rollercoaster!

Plus, I've been waiting 21 years to cruise down the Discovery River and see that fire-breathing dragon's lair.

Better it being called Disney's Adventure Kingdom...

I'm afraid to say it but in 20 - 50 years Zoos may be the only place we will be able to see a many different species as their habitats are being destroyed all over the Earth or are being hunted into extinction. Thanks to Zoos we have the opportunity to see many species that are on the verge of being extinct or are so low in numbers that they are only found now in the Zoo community or in very small hard to reach parts of the World. I can't speak for everyone but I believe that many Animal Rights Activists understand the need for Aquariums and Zoos and therefore I thinking DAK will continue to have live animals for many years to come as it does an important job educating the public and building the populations of many species going extinct.

You only have to look at the stuff going on at Sea World to know how people feel about animals in captivity. Granted, Disney appear (from the outside at least) to treat their animals completely differently to Sea World but once the protesters have got their way with Sea World (I.e removing the animal attractions completely) they will most likely move to the next target.

Granted, there are massive differences in Animal Kingdom and Sea World but I agree with the second post in that I don't think there will be real animals at Animal Kingdom in the future.

Who knows, we may get computer generated animals instead :)

The difference is that at Sea World a majority of the animals are on stage to perform and entertain where as at DAK they are on display living on a reserve where outside of hunting and a few other natural behaviors they pretty much can live freely under the care of Veterinarians and caregivers.

Zootopia. Conservation Station is seasonal, the movie has sequels on the way, Shanghai Disneyland is getting Zootopia and Animal Kingdom needs more kid-friendly rides. Cue the replies of “but no insiders have said so” and “I hate Zootopia. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Disney won’t put Zootopia in Animal Kingdom because they called me and I told them it made no sense and they agreed not to.”

Once the epcot overhaul finishes up and Tron, I’m willing to bet Zootopia would be well underway.

And I know the Animal rights groups have gained steam in the past couple of decades but the idea that Animal Kingdom is going to give up all their animals is ridiculous unless zoos are outlawed in the United States which has a near zero chance of ever happening.

This is such a ridiculous idea. I’m sorry but a zoo and a circus are completely different. In a circus, animals are expected to perform tricks for the entertainment of humans and in many cases are punished in inhumane ways. In a zoo, they may live in captivity but they aren’t expected to do anything that isn’t outside their natural behaviors. Nobody stands in the Lion enclosure on the safari with a whip telling them to roar. Research is also conducted on the conservation needs of the animals as well and many of the species (such as the manatee in the Living Seas in Epcot) are disabled and likely cannot survive out of captivity. Comparing zoos and circuses are like comparing apples to oranges. Yes they have animals in captivity but the similarities really stop there. I assume your ridiculous reply is the result of this forum’s need to over dramatize every action of Disney.

Yes
I wonder if they'll ever bring back the idea of more mythical creatures like dragons. We have Pandora now so it's a possibility.

honestly I'd love a Lion King dark ride somewhere in there .. but I'd want it to be its own thing and not replace anything else, which I am also aware is insanely wishful thinking. Also, maybe having some actually really cool upgrade to the Dinosaur area would be nice.

I predict that AK will be all screen based with 4d screens with all sorts of animals. On the plus side, we may get more species. There could be less walking and it could be temperature controlled as we would just enter a room, don a suit and off we go to mingle with any animal we want. There will also be an option that we could be any animal we want and feel how they live, even a dinosaur. That will be an upcharge of course.
