So me and DD are both very sick with some sort of cold. Congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, and cough. We're both on antibiotics. However, DD's meds needs to be refridgerated, so it kind of negates taking it on the trip. I'm hoping that she'll have enough of it in her before we go.

What are your best remedies that actually work and will make us feel somewhat better before we leave?

A cold is a virus, so antibiotics are not going to do anything for you, so don't worry about not taking those with you.

You still have a few more days to go, so fingers crossed you will be starting to improve. Hope you have a great trip!

Do not stop antibiotics early! It can cause a rebound effect, with a worse cold or even infection of a different system (urinary tract is most common in females). If you are flying, just put them in a small cooler bag - the resorts have small refrigerators now. Even a ziploc with ice (double bag it) would work. I'm sure the flight attendant would give you some ice once you're on board, if TSA makes you empty it. Or, ask at one of the food kiosks near your gate. If you are driving, you can bring a small cooler. They will be OK if not refrigerated for a short period of time (a couple of hours), but should be kept cool if at all possible.

As mentioned, antibiotics are not effective against viruses unless you have developed an associated bacterial infection - which happens fairly often with congestion. But whether or not they are really needed, once you start taking them you have to keep on for the full prescribed course.

Forgot to add. Lots of steamy showers and good nose/lung clearing a couple of times a day. You could try a saline nasal rinse. If you use a neti pot, remember to use distilled water to prevent infection. You might want privacy because it's kind of gross, but you will feel better after.

Thanks yinz guys. Very worried about taking it through TSA as it's liquid. But we'll see what happens. I never knew about the rebound illnesses if stopping antibiotics early. So I learned something new today.

I know a saline rinse would help...but DD won't let anyone near her nose. It also takes her FOREVER to take just 1 teaspoon of augmentin.

Bags packed? Check.
Boarding passes printed? Check.
Feeling better? NOPE!
Have to be up and out the door around 04:30 hours for a 07:05 departure. This is going to suck. LOL

Thanks, mom!
DD's meds arrived still cold in a lunch tote with ice pack. Kept cold in the fridge, however DD complained it wasn't cold enough. So I moved it further back in the fridge and it froze solid. No good after that.

When we began to desend, me and DD's ears would not pop no matter what. Same thing for me on the trip home. Turns out I now have infections in both ears.

But, despite being sick, having cold and cloudy weather, and higher than anticipated crowd levels, we still managed to have a good time. I'll get a trip report up soon once I have all my pics edited.
