We broke down on Jungle Cruise

So that happened. It was 95 degrees with no wind blowing whatsoever. However the 2 free fast passes they gave us after the ride more then made up for it! On a side note, our guide Anthony did a fantastic job of entertaining us until we were rescued and towed in!

That happened to me a couple of years ago, the skipper was so funny killing time until we got back to the dock that I think it was actually better than the ride. He had the whole boat chanting his name, it was awesome.

You don't hear too many stories about Jungle Cruise breakdowns. I wonder what the evac plan is for that attraction if an actual emergency situation arises.
If I am not mistaken, ever boat in JC operates under its own power so you would not have a situation were all of the ride vehicles stop. When one does go 101, it is towed to the dock unloaded and then towed to the service area.

Towed by another boat. Or if needs be cast members in waders physically move it.

It used to be two shots from the skippers gun would summon help. Back in the day.
Literally was typing that out as you posted.

If there was some sort of medical emergency, wasn't there another shot combination which told all the other boats to floor it back to the dock so the boat in trouble could get to the dock ASAP?

I’m afraid I’ve powered down my archive at the moment so can’t access it. Hopefully someone will answer.

It's on a track. How can it be towed?

It's not on a track so much as there's a narrow trench in the bottom of the river flume. Each boat has a rudder (for lack of better term, I'm sure there's a real name for it) and sets of guide wheels that rest in the trench and keeps the boat moving along the ride path. This allows the boat to have a realistic feeling of actually floating, as the trench is wide enough that the boat can bob and move slightly left and right. However, each boat operates under its own power and the skipper controls the speed, just not where the boat can go.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe that it is possible for the boats to disengage from the trench and begin to float freely if the water level gets high enough.

Here's a great pic of the river while drained which shows the trench, courtesy of Passport2Dreams:
