WDW burnout has set in. Where else do you use your points?

We spent Christmas week at BWV had a good time however until Disney brings multiple new things to the table we don't intend to return. Where else do our fellow DVC members use their points? We have used them for cruises. Good or bad we'd like to know.

Just yesterday added 92 points from resale and I still do not think I will ever have burn out going to WDW. Doing something different this year and going for three long weekends instead of one long trip. I have used points for a Disney Cruise.

No points myself (I never bought DVC), but I would say spending some time out west at Disneyland is worth a trip!

It's a completely different feel from WDW...not as good as a cruise, but better than WDW has stagnated to.

I'm taking donations if you want to give some points away;)

I have stayed in a few different timeshares through RCI trade in that were all pretty nice. I didn't trade in my DVC points but had a relative who traded in a week at their timeshare for me.

  • We did a week in Carlsbad CA at the Carlsbad Inn which is roughly halfway between LA and San Diego. We spent some time in both cities as well as LaJolla and Carlsbad itself is a cool little town.
  • We did a week in Scotsdale AZ and visited the Grand Canyon, Sedona and the rest of the state. Put almost 2,000 miles on the rental car and loved every minute of driving through the desert with no traffic.
  • We did a week in Saint Martin. The resort we stayed at was right on the beach and had a casino nearby. Crazy good happy hour specials.
  • We did a week in Kauai. The resort was nice but we really just used it as a base to visit other parts of the island.
Those are just some examples of all the places you could pick from. I have never traded in my DVC points through RCI, but it's worth looking into if you want a change of pace. From what I understand RCI Gold Crown resorts are supposed to be top notch. All the ones we stayed at were nice.

Thanks Goof and Parents this is what I'm looking for. A three day trip to Disneyland is not out of question.

I would consider Vero Beach but the visit would have to be between 11/1 to 4/15. I own a seasonal business so I restricted to the colder months.

I would love to hear about anyone's experience at Vero or Hilton head

I checked Airfare from New Hampshire to LAX and we can get there for almost the same price as airfare to Orlando. That means spending some points at DCL is now on my radar. My BIL is in San Diego so we would likely combine it with some time spent with his family. I'm sure we could easily burn a week in CA.

We did 2 nights at HHI last summer on our way to WDW (we drove) and loved it. It might not be Florida warm in the colder months, but if you're looking for a place to relax for the week, HHI should be high on your list. We're hoping to spend a full week there soon.

A lot more laid back then WDW. Its Disney but not in an overwhelming way. You still get the good service you expect from Disney. Private beach, but since it was February we didn't get to enjoy it that much.Activities on the resort for the kids. The kids would probably enjoy it but IMO more for adults to do in the area.

We have stayed at the Hilton Head DVC and would highly recommend it. It is a beautiful resort, very cozy feeling, so I wouldn't mind going when it's cold. The view of the marshes from the resort is breathtaking. There are plenty of activities for the kids. It is a slower pace than a WDW vacation. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to stay there. It has just enough of the Disney touches.

I use to own a timeshare and spaced banked thru RCI. At one time I was able to go to England for 2 weeks. With you owning a DVC timeshare gives you a leg up as far as exchange value concerned. Many out of country resorts. When I owned the timeshare I was able to travel to many places in US. I think you can go on to RCI web site and look at there directory. Not sure if points needed will show. Different time of year requires less or more points. You might have to join for that. Most of the resorts are good. Many, many in Florida. Do read the reviews. Hope that helps.

We have stayed at Vero Beach 2x in the past and loved it on points.
Also stayed at the Grand Californian Villas for 7 nights this past September on points.We spent 6 Days Park hopping and did a day trip to Laguna Beach!
Never used points on DCL too many for the deluxe cabins.
Might try Aulani sometime.

We haven't done anyting outside of WDW yet - but may in 2016

Either Hilton Head, or renting the points and using the cash for a vacation. Would love to do a DCL cruise, but airfare is still a killer (getting 5 people to Florida from NJ, ugh). Bayonne and NYC cruise terminals look better and better all the time (maybe if DCL would come back here)

I would argue definitely yes! This past spring break we started in San Diego and finished in San Francisco. We bought the CityPass tickets for Southern California, which put us in Disnleyland Park and Disney California Adventure for 3 days. We stayed in a 2BR villa at the Grand Californian for 4 nights. We also had a shorter return trip to Southern California for the Tournament of Roses Parade a few weeks ago and stuck around the LA area.

Some of the things we did on our trips:

In the San Diego Area:

San Diego Zoo
Old Town San Diego
Hotel Del Coronado (inspiration for the Grand Floridian)
Sea World (although it did not really knock our socks off)

In the LA area:

The Grove/Farmers Market
Crystal Cove State Park (awesome state park on the coast)
Universal Studios Hollywood
Hollywood and Highland/Hollywood area
Stalking some filming locations (we found the Father of the Bride house and the Dunphy family's house a couple of weeks ago, and it was fun looking around those areas)

In the desert:

Palm Springs
Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
horseback riding near Palm Springs
