i agree, atleast the DVD that disney gives out for vacation planning has more stuff on it in terms of footage. if anyone does not have the 100 yom, i urge you to get the dvd that is out now. it is a great reminder/souviner from WDW.

That's my case. I don't have the 100 yom dvd, and can't order the free vacation dvd, because it is only for US households...:fork: They don't deliver it in Brazil. My aunt is at WDW, and she called me yesterday to tell me that she has already bought my dvd. I think I will love it anyway!:)

I agree, you will probably love it. Hopefully you have a multi region player though, or you won't be playing it!

I just watched my Vacation Planning DVD for the first time yesterday- I had had my parents' copy on loan until then- but, somehow, I ended up with the family version.
I didn't even know there were different ones and I know that I selected "No Kids!" when ordering, but I ended up with the corny one with a lot more characters goofing around and the corny guy who does the "Hi Lisa" Fastpass routine in the regular one.

Well, I guess it's better to have something than nothing at all since there doesn't seem to be a DVD option anymore on the Disney website.

The version you got is the Pre-Family version, the version for adults without children. It has interviews with mainly adults in their 20s/30s.

The Family version does not have the "Annoying Guy" in it, except for the Fast Pass demo. It has many interviews with very small children and pre-teens.

There is also a Post-Family version for older folks whose children have grown up. Again, no "Annoying Guy" there either. Naturally, this one contains interviews with older folks.

Hope this helps! BTW... who is the "Annoying Guy" in those videos anyway?

I have a region 1 player, which I bought at Walmart last year for 48.00! (I wouldn't have enough money to buy a more expensive one, and here in Brazil dvds are still very expensive) So I will not have problems playing it, I suppose. I only have problems when I try to rent dvds here, I have to look for all regions dvds or go to a store that rents area 1 dvds, which is very far from my place.

Your player wouldn't happen to be an APEX would it? If so, they are known to play other region discs without any problems. I have one I got from Wal Mart and it plays a Region 2 PAL DVD that I have.* If it is an Apex, have you ever tried other region discs in it? They just might work. If you have and it didn't work, or if it is not an APEX, well just disregard this message.

* Please note that your actual results may vary.

I was thinking of saying the same thing ("Annoying Guy"), but you never know who's a member of the Forums!

Honestly, if I hear that man say "Lisa" one more time.......
(i.e. "Hi Lisa, thanks Lisa, goodbye Lisa....")

Well, I saw him referred to as the "Annoying Guy" on other threads, so I just sort of assumed that was what he was known as by fans, lol. He is obviously playing it up for the camera, and it does work. I just wonder who he is. Is he a comedian? An actor? Just a random cast member picked out for the videos? Could he be Lisa's boyfriend?

Actually, if you give me its model number and stuff, I can try to find the proper code to unlock it. That's what I did to my previous 2 players. :D

It is an Apex ad 1010w, the only one that has no unblocking code in the websites...:fork: It does not play region 4 dvds, which is what we have here. The only hack that works in it blocks all the functions of the dvd, and the movie plays but with no subtitles (which is a tragedy for my family, nobody speaks English) and you can't skip or rewin the movie... But my aunt is bringing an Apex ad 1200, that seems to have a good unblocking code!:D

My aunt has just called me!!! She bought lots of things for me and Maria Clara (for those who don't know her, she is my baby, that will be born in September, and is kicking me right now)!!!:sohappy: I just can't wait! All she could say about the Where Magic Lives dvd is that the cover is very beautiful! She couldn't read any information about it. Let's wait until she arrives, and then I will tell you guys my opinion about it!

The "annoying guy" you are referring to is a sort of spokesmodel I guess...being like many Disney owned people/things, he does many things. You may recognize him from such attractions as Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Play It! He does a lot of PR work for WDW appearing as Emcee at many functions/cast member brand roll outs/etc.
Just a little something for you to chew on....

The holiday planning videos seem to be the same each year. Some of the footage is really old... POTC and SM springs into mind, it looks like that was shot a the time of opening. The newer stuff e.g. Buzz and Winnie the Pooh for example looks like a home movie - nope home movies are usually better, I'm bored of seeing the same video since I get my first one in '96.... but hey - its free!!!!

Just watch channel 16-21 at the resort and you will get enough Disney videos your head will explode...over and over and over and over again :)

So should I purchase the 100 Years/Walt Disney Story DVD or Where The Magic Lives DVD?

If they both feature the exact same footage, what is the difference?

Which is more complete, which is better quality & has more features?

What would you all recommend, for those that have seen both??

Thanks!

I did just get the CD "Where the magic lives". I like it a lot. A nice little overview of the songs. Since I like it so much I might buy the DVD also.

Thanks!

Where the magic Lives ???? Well if this DVD is to believed the magic has been frozen since 98. Any changes to the parks after this time are not mentioned. The quality of the video production is poor ( so poor that my mate said if one of his students produced it theyd fail). The sound is appauling and as has been said before there are no real special features.

All this dvd is is a pre holiday taster and a ______ poor one at that.
Id stick to the CD in future.

Just a point of note, there are two holiday planning vids available in the UK one for WDW the other Universal. I think perhaps someone at Disney should watch their competitors and see the benefits of having and accomplished travel presenter. It uses humour and irrevrant presentation including an out takes section. And shock, horror probe the presenter even rides the attractions.
