This is just a rumor from another web site but I would look for the signs to come down really fast at Disney/MGM if in fact it did happen. First the Disney Stores now MGM.....what is next????? Anyway just thought that would be a bit of intresting news/rumors.

There aren't many MGM signs up. And Disney has purchased the rights to use the MGM movies that are currently in the park, so it would only affect things in the future.

The Disney Store is no longer a "Disney" Store the word should be coming out in the next few days as most of the stores have gotten there packets today. But no one is sure about everything right now but they are sold.

The Disney Store news is old... this has been an ongoing thing for a while now- But the reason for the Disney stores to be sold was due to slow business. The low profits of each store was bringing down the whole- I believe Disney still controls the New York store and a few other tourist spots...I feel that this MGM issue is completely different? And I agree that besides the logo factor, not much is at stake here. I think the name MGM Studios has just become natural as oppose to people really thinking about the fact that MGM plays a part in the park's theme...

Yes the fact it was going to be sold is old new but the fact that it is sold has still not made the press yet. I also just think it is funny that WB may own MGM which would make Disney have to figure out that 10 (lol can we get facts past this rumor)year contract on the rights they have.

The Studio has alway been called the disney studios over the past 5 to 10 years anyway in the brochures and tv,dvd advertisments.

As for the Disney Stores...sells wouldn't be so bad IF they didn't turn it into the Princess store. There use to be a time when you could buy or just dreamed about owning animation artwork , statues, books, adult -teen and children clothes .

Once again the higher ups or going down for selling out the company for cheap and items for one specific group.

Pluss you can buy the same merchandise at walmart, toy's r us, target,k mart...why would you want to visit the disney store, some people didn't know that there ever was one untill it was to late.

  :(

The Disneyt store thing is old news. Basicially They are going to bring the Disney stores to there origional glory. Instead of having a disney store in every mall they are going to be run by WDW merchandiseing and only be in a few major cities. The new york city store re-opening in october is going to be a test store. From there expect a few other stores to open up in cities around the US like it used to be when they first opened. As for MGM Besides tower of terror and the movies in the Great movie ride MGM is pretty much gone from the studios. It's been pretty much the Disney studios for a while now. so really it dosn't matter much. Now that disney ownes the muppets I hope for more incorporation of the muppets into the studios. Picture it The Muppets Hollywood studios or something like that. Or Warner brothers could license to disney and we could see bugs and daffy along with Mickey and Kermitm but I don't think that would ever happen.

I will be one VERY disappointed lady if the Disney Store sale means no more Disney Store in malls across the country. I also go there to "get my fix." Yes, I do buy Disney things in Wal Mart, K Mart, and Toys R Us but I also feel the quality is higher in the Disney Store. However, I also feel that the vast reduction in adult items was a mistake. Oh well, if the Disney Store is removed from the mall I guess Hot Topic will gladly take the extra money in my pocket !

I forgot. I think you're right about WB characters and 6 Flags. At least last summer they were there. I don't know about this summer as our 6 Flags was sold back to Geauga Lake.

MGM has traded hands a couple times since Disney/MGM was built. I don't think a sale to Warner would mean much to Disney for the timebeing (I mean, when you think New Line, do you think Warner? Ok, not you film geeks! :) ) In the future, it may mean something if Disney decides to renegotiate use of the name. More important (IMHO) would be the re-licensing of any images (GMR and the MGM studio gate).

And even if Warner swallows MGM, typically in cases like this, the studio is left seperate and distinct (think Disney and Mirimax), so I also wouldn't be expecting a cross pollination of other Warner properties (ignoring the six flags connection for the moment). (Of course, I'm just conjecturing here about how Warner might handle the merger)

(oh, and if I remember right, Tower of Terror is licensed through CBS, not MGM)

Just a Rumor!

I work for WB (hey, it's paycheck!)...I just checked with a buddy of mine who is in-the-know and he tells me there is not much to this at the moment. He says they have explored the possibility, but they're also looking at about 50 other things...and it's likely nothing their looking at will never happen...it rarely does. It's a very competitive business, so they're always looking at things that could improve the company.

Yes, Six Flags and WB do have a licensing agreement.

I agree with you. They definetly need to bring in more adult items. This is really starting to make me mad!!! :fork: ::Stupid Children's Stores:: :fork:

I agree, I used to go to the Disney store all the time to buy animation, books and music. For the past couple years, I've sort of avoided it because it is a "girly" type store now. I can't find any books or artwork anymore, and very limited music selection. I would also buy a ton of pins from there back in he day, but of course, those stores don't "exist" anymore. It's sad what management has done to the stores.

It was upper management that basically set us up to fail. I talked to one of my fellow CM at the store she feels the same way. It was like, let's take away everything that people buy and make the entire store pink! Don't get me wrong, princess merchandise does sell, but so do cels, classic pieces and adult clothing. I work at my store tonight. Hopefully my manager will know more until then.

As for the WB thing, well, when Fed Ex pulled their sponsorship of SM, Disney got all of their signs down fast...so it shouldn't effect busness at all.
