I am not trying to insult you but I also think 16 is perhaps the age limit because they want people who are "adults" or adult-like in nature. They are worried about having to supervise minors and had to set an age limit somewhere. Everybody is different and I know 12 year olds more mature than 21 year olds. They set a limit because that is what some lawyer told them, I'm afraid.

Don't feel bad. I can't do the Segway tours either. Not because of my age (I passed 16 long ago), but because I don't weigh enough. You have to be at least 100lbs to make the Segways go. You'll age, but I'll be puny for life... ;)

The theory is that they shouldn't be allowing anyone under 16 on the back stage tours because they have shown that at that earlier age the magic gets ruined for them if they go. Also they have probably experienced that younger then that lose patience with the slow pace and sometimes dry presentation.

The liability factor would definitely become a factor with the segways.

Bingo. I, in my day, went to WDW with my high school marching band. When we went to the Magic Kingdom, we entered through the CM entrance with all the stuff backstage and I believe we came out somewhere around POTC. My sister who was 13 at that time, the CMs actually asked my parents if they wanted them to take her in a different way so she didn't see 4 Goofy costumes and CMs walking around in partial costumes, etc so that the "magic" wasn't ruined for her.

That's probably a pretty good reason why they have age limits for the "behind the scenes" events, regardless of what they are.

Sadly, it isn't confined to kids. Years ago my ex-wife and I were on the Skyway over 20K and she was absolutely upset when she saw that the subs didn't actually submerge. Everyone's fantasy is different.
