Infecting people (asymptomatic=unknowingly, symptomatic=knowingly) around them, either strangers or family members/coworkers/etc.

Endgame is herd immunity.. either by powering through it (Sweden Model) or by doing it slowly (social distancing measures and a vaccine that hopefully arrives at one point) .. or a middle-ground of both
Well , we now know how the Sweden model worked.🤦 Let’s seriously try the latter until a vaccine comes along.

The infection rates in Florida are rising, which could impact WDW.

Therefore, the discussion is quite clearly relevant to Disney.
I agree it’s a relevant discussion. Disney has a pretty solid plan in place right now for re-opening. Assuming the infection rate continues to rise (we are still a month out from full WDW open so no guarantee it will) there are a number of more problematic things in FL that should be addressed before looking at Disney‘s plan. One area that does look a little concerning is some of the lack of enforcement we’ve seen from Universal (especially those lines at the water park). If Disney management feels that people won’t or can’t stick to the plan and follow rules they could decide to pull back on their own even if the government has no problem with them opening.

De santos has already said he’s not shutting down. It’s full steam ahead and protect the vulnerable.

Its not that it’s not relevant, but it would be nice to have at least one thread to discuss the reopening plans, but maybe I’m the only one planning a trip this Summer.

Carry on.

the positivity rate nearly doubled in one weeks time. Thats not sensationalized.
It did? Yesterday was very high but also had a very low (for recent times) number of test results. In the press conference the Governor stated that the labs are sometimes very efficient reporting the positives and then dump a ton of negatives at once. Specifically, he mentioned 6/6 where this dump happened. It is possible that some of the coming days show lower than "reality" for the rate.

Also, it is sensationalized when the reporting ignores or dismisses the information that many of these positive results came from testing large groups of people that were in close contact with discovered cases and work and/or live in close proximity with each other. These led to, in some cases, 90% positive rates for a group that were tested even though almost all of them were asymptomatic.

Using the positivity rate by itself can not be used to determine the disease prevalence trend unless the testing is done in a random sample study. As an example, if a multi generational family of 10 lives in an apartment and 1 gets infected, it is likely that the whole family will become infected. If you test them (because of contact tracing) it will skew the rate higher, even if they are all or mostly asymptomatic.

Personally, I wish they would set up a daily random sample study with a statistically significant sample size in each county. If it is properly randomized, then the trend will be very relevant.

They may not shutdown again but I could see stricter social distancing measures. Which could in turn have an effect on Disney opening.

A continued rise in infections in Florida over the next few weeks would likely affect the reopening plans, the link between WDW’s plan to reopen and COVID in the context of this discussion should be painfully obvious to everyone.

The governor can say whatever he wants, he can’t force WDW to reopen if the current COVID trends continue on an upward curve; the resort doesn’t exist in a bubble separate from the rest of the state, if the virus continues to spread then Disney will have to react.

The line is percent positive of total tests in florida daily using a 7 day moving average. a definite upward trend. Up to 7 percent positive of total tests taken.

I continue to think about the sacrifices made by Americans during WW2, and about how loud they would laugh at our society today.

People think masks are political instead of doing their part to save lives..
The sacrifices of WW2 were much more acceptable to a population that was lead by a government with a unified goal.

Today we have two political parties more intent on destroying the other party, rather than working together to seek solutions.

Relating this back to the topic of this thread, this means that corporate Disney is on its own in charting its course of action. One misstep along the way and extremists in both political parties are ready to pounce.

This is a fair point on thread drift. Assuming the whole plan isn’t scrapped by Disney (still very unlikely) there are many logistical details still not known. Unfortunately not much to talk about for now. Maybe they will start releasing some more info soon.

The biggest impact from any current uptick is cases is probably that it reduces the chances from slim to none of Disney altering their opening plans to have less restrictions than originally announced. I know there was some hope that by delaying the opening things could actually be less restrictive. That doesn’t seem at all likely at least right now.

This may be a dumb comment, but wouldn't you expect a decent amount of positive tests because people getting tests are generally have the symptoms of covid?

We did learn today that the NBA will be using three resorts. Other than that there is not much to report.

There seems to be decent coverage in the news of the 15 people who went to the same bar and all caught the virus. It wasn't to hard to figure out the one place they had in common.

Disney does not want that type of coverage. They will do what ever is necessary avoid that outcome. This might be social distancing, masks, bars closed, rides closed. It also might go as far as not opening next month.

Which in a way has lead to more questions...
  1. With YC out of the picture will BC even open and if it does when will the main pool open?
  2. Will they keep the entire Gf resort closed (except DVC tower) or will they allow regular guests in some rooms and just carve out an area for NBA, if it’s a carve out could they do that at YC and CSR too?
  3. For anyone scheduled to stay at the 3 impacted resorts what happens to their reservations? When will they find out and will they get upgraded or something else from Disney?

This is where the contact tracing is so important. Who knows, there could be one of those "COVID superspreaders" in that bar!
