Wall-E hole in plot

Just venting here but has is occurred to anyone else that when Wall-E and EVE are flying around out in space that the pivotal "plant" would totally freeze and be dead? Sorry, the nerd in me just had to say something!!!

I can smell your sarcasm but for some reason it is the one glowingly wrong thing that bugs the heck out of me when I watch that movie...don't know why
