I understand there's a path between Wilderness lodge and Fort Wilderness. Is it a paved walkway? How long does it take to walk between the two resorts? Thanks.

Hello!

Yes, the exercise path between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge is paved. The path starts by the Tri-Circle D Ranch and ends at the bus pick up area at Wilderness Lodge. I'd say if your a fast walker the path will take about 20 to 25 minutes one-way, if you go towards the evening hours you'll run into many groups of deer that hang out in that area. It's very nice!

There is an unpaved Nature Trail as well, which leads from the bike/boat rental area of Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness Campground. (It intersects with the Bike & Jogging Path that @NMBC1993 described eventually, just before they emerge near the Tri-Circle D Ranch.) Either one is a great way to get to Fort Wilderness for dining at Trail's End or the Hoop-de-Doo -- although if you're taking the Nature Trail, which is "paved" solely with sand, you'll want to wear closed-toed shoes to avoid lots of sand in your footwear. :) Failing those, take the boat.

This map shows both (#20, Bike & Jogging Path -- that's the paved one -- and #21, Nature Trail -- the sandy path) : http://runningatdisney.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/fort-wilderness-recreation-map.jpg

I completely forgot about the other trail, it's actually very nice with a great view of Bay Lake. Just make sure to watch out for swarms of gnats flying around the path. My mother and I made the mistake of coming back that way from Trail's End right at sunset, we couldn't walk three steps without getting a dozen flies stuck in our mouths, up our noses, etc. (charming image I know). Just the heads up:)

We stayed at WL in 2012, I wanted to do the nature trail when researching before we went but forgot it existed when we were there! Tbh I don't know when we would for it in! When's the best time? Is it always safe? I can only think maybe getting up early before breakfast and the parks?!?!

We're back next at WL next year! :D

We walked this path on Thanksgiving day to eat lunch at the Trail's End restaurant. We saw many deer and it was a great way to spend the day on one of the most crowded park days. Beautiful views of the contemporary as well.
