Wait...what? SSE opening tomorrow?

Why are we saying it's not finished? They acknowledged "minor changes" which means the descent is not getting fixed - and the whole "not finished" is the defense of the descent.

The facts cancel it out, the ending is what the ending is. Which sucks.

The company will not acknowledge an issue that they receive such response from when dealing with the media. There will be changes made between now and then, but not on a major scale. Mr. Zalk spoke very highly of this attraction and the work that has been done. He has instilled a definite confidence in me that the finished product will be nothing short of spectacular.

Remember this when judging- the attraction is still not finished. February maybe, but not now.

Exactly. That is the idea! Though, the enhancements made to SSE will be similar to those seen in the Laugh Floor- mostly digital, almost nothing being done cosmetically.

sooo:veryconfu Are you concurring with what I said, or did I misspeak somehow?

Merf, you know I am a supporter of you on this forum, and I am not meaning to debate, but my statement was not made in defense of the descent alone. The attraction as a whole is not yet finished. While most of what you see is what you get, there is more to this story than what the press has been given. Of that, I can assure you. :animwink:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion here, but I like to keep an open mind about works in progress. The Laugh Floor is a perfect example of where my hope is directed (though my initial thought of Spaceship Earth was so much better than that of Monster's Inc.). I hated the attraction during the previews and continued to hate it for a few months after it debuted. After those few initial months, the show started getting new material, variety and new skits. Having seen it constantly since that first preview, my view of the show has changed. While it is not in any sense my favorite attraction (and I still think Turtle Talk is more entertaining), it has gotten to a level of entertainment and variety that I find enjoyable. My hope is that SSE will continue to recieve gradual upgrades/tune ups (at least one has been confirmed to me already) to better the experience. I have much faith in Bob and the Imagineers working on this project (and when speaking to them, I can see how adament they really are about this project that has taken them nearly 2.5 years to develop) that they will do the right thing for Spaceship Earth.

Yeah, I think the ending is a pretty sure thing. (I never really argued that point.) I was just noting that "Open" dosen't usually mean "Finished" nowadays with WDI.

I dont really care if they fix the paperboy or make the telegraph guy not shudder (fixing his compliance settings) because they're not detrimental to the whole experience.

That crappy ending is :(

Jump back to this side of the Grand Canyon for a minute...

"minor changes" can mean a lot of things.

"fixing the descent" is also a perspective thing as to what needs to and should be changed about it.

Maybe the esurance commercial will at least get my choices right for once.

I do agree with you that what I have seen thus far is pretty anti-climactic after the awesome first half of the ride.

I'm just willing to wait until WDI signs off on it, to decide whether I like it as a whole or not.

You know speaking of things not finished....

The mirror column has the scars where the old SSE logos used to be. There is no fence or landscaping to protect it from the people who put their hands all over it.

The entrance/north side of Spaceship Earth continues to have the overgrown plants and trees and drab grey and brown colors on its legs and sides. A far cry from the rest of the attraction was has been rebranded with new color schemes, plants, lighting, etc.

I like the male doing the safety speil and Dame Judi doing the narration. She presents an upbeat, informative, and straightforward presentation.

The music is upbeat and positive, but forgetable.

The ending is missing fiberoptics and lighting.

If they kept all the old show elements and even allowed guests to turn their screens off if they wanted to, I bet more of you people would like it.

The point is, 3/4 of SSE has been successfully updated and the majority of the public will enjoy it and probabily reride it.

This includes people once again spending time in Project Tomorrow.

I finally got to ride it last night and I just don't get the ending at all. I mean why do they take your picture? None of the characters in my little Jetsons movie looked anything like me if that is supposed to even be the point. Now I probably don't hate the second half as much as some people do but I am an optimist. I mean after all we can't all nap in the Hall Of Presidents and the American Adventure. Relax folks I am just kidding.

Do you like your bacon crisp or soggy? *clicks crisp* Soggy it is!

Do you want wilty or crisp lettuce? *carefully chooses crisp* Wilty, good choice!

Now tomatos, fresh or rotten? *taps the far corner of the screen nowhere near a choice with a pin* Rotten! You must be a gourmet!

*grumbles*

Funny, When I read "minor changes" I don't see any words in the terminology thats means "the descent is not getting fixed"... I see two words that mean minor changes.

Now, if we want to get all semantic, that could mean they have no intention of doing anything further than cleaning up workmen's tools and sweeping up dust. It could as easily mean they are going to entirely revamp the descent from top to bottom and consider it minor because the majority of the ride comes before the descent.

The fact is, despite your ranting on and on, you have no way of actually knowing what "minor changes" means, any more than I do.

The laugh floor did not suddenly become a ride or animatronic show though.. SSE's ending need major surgery.

I'm willing to bet that it'll end up like the original version, only lasting 2 years, before they go back to something like Tomorrow's Child.

Kinks yet to be worked out. Part of the work left to be done before February.

I was agreeing with you and providing my take on the subject (as well as what I was told).

Why would they publicly announce the opening of an unfinished ride?

Because it is a way to garner early responses to the new attraction, plus another way to bring guests in to the park.

Again, they did do that for Laugh Floor, Big Thunder rehab, and Mansion.

Exactly.

SSE's ending need major surgery.

That is a matter of opinion. There are simple fixes to the complaints made when regarding the descent and WDI is hard at work developing those non-cosmetic changes. I'm not making any predictions about the attractions long run until I see the truly *finished* product, which won't be for a while.

Honestly though. If return riders don't like the attraction, (if you are specifically referring to the descent-close your eyes) just don't ride. That is the simplest fix to dissatisfaction with an attraction. Thats what I've been doing with Universe of Energy for years!
