Visiting Japan, and TDR, February 2018

Hey everybody,

We'll be returning to Japan, and TDR, this coming February.

We are curious to know what others who've visited both during that month have experienced. Cons: Shorter hours, and refurbishments? Extreme cold weather? Pros: less crowds, seasonal events and decorations? Cheaper everything?

Also, any recommendation on places to see in Japan within a 5 hour train ride would be very helpful. We've already seen most of Tokyo, and have visited Kyoto, as well as Nara. So we are looking to see something new, traditional... a must, without having to be in Sub-zero temperatures.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

I was there in the middle of January last year and crowds were not bad, but the parks were far from empty. By US park crowd standards, I would say it was like a 4-5 out of 10. It was cold, but certainly not extreme - not as cold as my home in Seattle that year. Practically tropical compared the Mid-West. Winter is the dry season, so mostly blue skies and often you could see Mt. Fuji. Haunted Mansion and Indiana Jones were closed for refurbs, but those are clones of rides I've done many times, so not a big deal.

Nikko is worth a day trip for the large World Heritage Site shrine complex. https://www.tsunagujapan.com/17-thi...tes-surrounded-by-gorgeous-natural-sceneries/

A trip to Hakone for the hot springs and site-seeing route including cable cars, ropeways, and pirate ship. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5200.html

VR Zone Shinjuku may be new since the last time you were there. Virtual reality Mario Kart! https://vrzone-pic.com/en/

I have never been in February so I cannot comment on crowds at that time.
Both of my trips have been on weekends so I have "enjoyed" very full parks
I hope you have a good trip
