'Villains Unleashed' hard ticketed event coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in August

My proposal would be to make "Unleash the Villians" a weekend offering in the September/October months kind of how "Star Wars Weekends" are during the late spring/early Summer. I TBH feel bummed out that it's hard ticketed. Oh well it's always nice to dream anyway.

August 23rd is a Saturday, and if this is really popular or sells out quickly they have plenty more Saturdays until Halloween ...which also happens to be a Friday this year

I'm all for more hard ticketed events- we use to always take advantage of eride nights when we came down and always go to either the halloween or christmas party- honestly I would rather pay addition money for limited ticket events instead of having to deal with the chaos that was trying to get any where near DHS for unleash the villians event last year we weren't able to get any where near the property. We will definitely be buying our tickets tomorrow morning.
I would imagine tickets would go on sale at 7am?

Is it safe to assume they'll be doing the special fireworks show?

I must be in the minority: I'm perfectly fine with hard ticket events, but think this one is overpriced at $67 given that it will lack a parade and other MNSSHP entertainment. Still, I'm sure with only one night, they could price tickets at $200 and there would be sufficient demand to sell it out.

Hard ticket events would be a waste of money if you already bought, say, a week long hopper, but as an alternative to day tickets they're great and I could see myself doing an all event ticket stay at WDW.

Yeah, especially with a phased pre-sale with passholders

From what I am told they are anticipating great demand based on last years event. They do not want the system to crash like it has for other events so they are staggering the sale of tickets.

Read on twitter a suggestion that Marvel villains could be a part of this. I think it was inferred from viewing the source on disneyvillainsparty.com.

No idea whether that's actually true or even possible under the contract with universal.

I hope
So what will it take you guys to buy a ticket? Does it need to be more than what was offered for Unleash the Villains at Limited Time Magic? Are you looking for more rare meet and greets, food and drinks, new firework show?
To take what was done at the Friday the 13th event and improve upon it. Like others have stated, spread out the Villains, have more Villains for a longer time frame. Fast pass them if possible, like they do for the Star Wars special actor appearances. The signature cards are great too spends up the line movement, not having to wait for people to get autographs. A special photo pass package price for the event only pictures taken and loaded to your event ticket would be nice and maybe an event frame. Have more than just a dance party in front of the hat, which by the way the band from last year was AWESOME. Special fireworks, would be great. And if there is a special event shirt PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not make it a black shirt! It is August in Florida and it would be nice not to sweat to death in the event shirt. A ladies cut option would be nice and being able to pre-order it like for the 24 hour event would be a bonus.

Have to agree. Seems overpriced to me when compared to the Halloween party (and in an inferior park to boot). I also agree that people would pay $200 for this.

I don't think $67 is all that overpriced. We don't know what they'll be offering, could be more, probably less, LOL.

I'd rather it be around, say $40-$59, that's more reasonable to me based on what was offered last time, but $67 really doesn't seem that bad. I see people's points though, however a parade doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Not like DHS offers one at all anymore anyway and people are paying $90+ for few characters, no new attractions since 2008 (I don't count Sparrow) and no parade.

I'd still like to have an idea what they're offering before I spend the money though.

Hopefully they'll have outlined what they're offering tomorrow. I'm hoping for everything from the Friday the 13th party and more obviously. More/longer villain meet and greets, the fireworks, the band, Hades and Meg hosting the event, maybe even a special cavalcade? A special float or two, some villains riding in the cars that DHS seems to use for ever motorcade, and some walking along the route would be great.

I thought of you @WDW1974

Thanks.

It is nice when folks give a bit of credit. BTW, this isn't the last upcharge/hard-ticket event you'll see ... you may see multiples in the very near future.

I can't say I care. I won't pay for any WDW upcharge event. And this one appears to be largely a ''let's get the moldy foamheads out and the fanbois will flock here'' ... one would hope there's more to this event with fireworks being only a start.

If you can't see a desperation by Disney with all of these events, then you have trouble with a grasp of the obvious. These events are flowing fast because NGE isn't delivering and Georgie K has mandates to make those numbers in any way possible.

I do feel kind of sad at how the fan community laps these things up, but as I have said many a time, WDW fans are the biggest obstacle to WDW returning to its past glories. They'd rather simply have merchandise events where they can buy crap with logos and characters long since removed from the parks, or events like this where the big deal is foamheads that they keep in storage.

I am not so sure I agree with you. In 1971, Disney World was so expensive compared to county fairs and amusement parks that my parents thought our 1972 trip would be a "once in a lifetime" event. They had such a great experience it became something to save money to do.

There has always been an ability to pay more to get more - deluxe resorts versus motels on I-Drive and 192; behind the scenes tours, Richard Petty Driving Experience, sunset savannah tour for concierge level guests at Animal Kingdom Lodge, etc. When I was a cast member in the mid-80s, closed park corporate parties were not uncommon in the offseason.

All of Disney World's offerings have never been available to everyone with a day pass.

That's simply not true. For most of WDW's first 25-30 years, the experience was largely the same for all guests. And talking about behind the scene tours, concierge options or a NASCAR driving experience are in no way the same as actual theme park options.

All of these hard ticket events are a relatively 21st phenomenon. There was a time, for instance, when MVMCP was a one weekend event and the Christmas entertainment went on during regular operating hours the rest of the week for day guests. They've come a long way from that ... and not at all good.

As to WDW being a once in a lifetime event, all I will say is that WDW was vastly less expensive in the 70s-90s than it has been since. It was much more affordable to vastly more people than it is today. I don't need to get @ParentsOf4 to talk about Disney's price increases versus inflation etc, do I?

They've wanted to do that for years. This may be the year they finally do it.

I have watched three times since the 90s when more adult type Halloween Parties were put up to WDW's leadership and shot down every time. ... I view this as an adult event only so far as it appeals to adults who view the characters as attractions. I may look great in that picture with Donald on Formal Night, but I was only doing him a favor by letting him get a picture with one of his big heroes!!! :-)

No, it's not. ... Unless they are villains that no one has ever heard of.

Of course there was a time you had to pay per ride. Not so today. So it is a bit apples/oranges. Haunted Mansion was a dollar when a dollar was a dollar.
