VIDEO - Part two of Imagineering's tour through Enchanted Tales With Belle

This is what I'm curious about as well. I don't have kids (yet), but I don't think I want to be the weird couple without kids, I already get enough weird looks doing solo research trips. I guess I have to do it once, but after that I am not sure I'll be back.
I agree. I would just like the chance to check it out, especially the magic mirror. I could probably bribe, beg, or threaten my husband and 14 year old son to walk through, but there is no way they would stay for the story.

While I give the exterior finishes of the FLE 10/10 grades, there's something that's been bothering me about what we've seen thus far of the interiors of the Beauty & Beast half of FLE that this video reinforces.

Here are two takes by WDI on "Merlin's Workshop retail" that demonstrate the difference between "theme-ing" and "decorating".

Themed:

Decorated:

A well-themed interior completely sells the intended environment (e.g. down to period door hinges), while a a decorated one adds props and other elements to what is essentially modern room to get an idea across.

Looking at these vids, the B&B areas, unfortunately, look like the latter. In this video in particular, the rooms look like a dressed-up WDW convention center room with thin, Ikea-like bookshelving, modern doors (hinges, push locks), new carpeting, bright recessed lighting, zero aging - basically the opposite of a centuries-old castle interior. I understand certain concessions need to be made in a theme park environment (exit signs), but I had hoped for a rigorously-themed interior rather than a light dressing to a modern room style one.

I hesitate to criticize what isn't open or I haven't seen in person, but I hope that these B&B interior areas look much better by opening day or in person than these vids are showing.

A couple thoughts...

Could be they have tested the aesthetics and found younger guests are overwhelmed by too much detail and so they have purposely designed it to be more cartoonish in areas.

Could be we are not seeing a finished product in the video but I doubt that.

We have seen pics in the restaurant that are very highly themed so this seems to be a choice.

I lean towards the theory that too much detail such as you see in the ToT lobby overwhelms younger guests and they have choosen the more familiar design as seen in the animated movie.

And I think I saw Lee standing in the background. I knew he would be a big fan ultimately.

Oh really? Is that what it's called?? Thanks for letting me know. I'm well aware of what I could do as a parent in that situation, I don't need you telling me. I was just pointing out a situation that would arise from the prop aspect that could be avoided if there were no cheap paper cut outs. It doesn't matter anyway because those cheap paper cut outs will be gone sooner than they came.

Yet, I told you anyway. Just remember, it's called life. :)

I don't think it matters how cheap the props are. They will never be going away, it will be the only way that Belle will be able to address the children as she won't know their names (hey, you with the green shirt, you're the tea cup, and you oh I forgot who you were, what are you supposed to be)...not going anywhere, they will have to be replaced!

...Unless...with next gen...Belle has an ear piece and someone tells her the name of each child using their RFID wrist band.

quick movements with small elements in small places realistically. It's why eyes are commonly projected now. It also allows for more realistic movement like mouths, etc. Basically you are not constrained to making the physical materials fit and bend to your needs.

I'm in the crowd that would love to see the cottage and preshow, but skip the show itself. haha I'm OK with stuff out there for kids, but that doesn't mean I want to stick around. Maybe after we have kids, that will change though. :)

I feel like I could go to my local library at story time and see the same thing. The only thing I'd enjoy is waiting in the line and seeing all the details. Is this odd? I think so. Disney, you can do better.

By all means, I'd love to hear your ideals for a "better" M&G than this? I'm serious. There's going to be M&G's, that's just a reality, and this to me looks to be about as immersive as one is. There's small details, there's great technology, there's interaction with the character beyond a simple picture/autograph.

M&G's might not be your thing, understandably, but within the confines of doing a M&G, Disney has really seemed to raise the bar with this attraction. Do you disagree?

I just think with the amount of details put into getting inside this meet and greet, something better could have been designed. It's a lot of build up for nothing. You get immersed into Belle's world, and then Voila! little kids holding card board cut outs! And in the video, it looks like there's maybe max 50 people there, most of them kids, so I just think the wait for this will be so slow moving. Meh, they could have done something better. I'm no imagineer, but I'm not impressed.

While I agree that projections can work very well in certain situations (i.e. car eyes in RSR), I wonder when we'll ever see this in AAs. The Pico projectors used here are certainly very cheap and effective, but it appears very obvious to the audience that projections are used, undercutting the believability of the experience much like the decorating v. theming issue brought up by @RandySavage. Here's to hoping for the electromagnetic eye tech appearing in Shanghai!

I hear they are going to have a "Rent-a-Kid" booth out front for those who want to see the attraction, but don't want to seem too weird.

You know, as I looked at a map of MK and was thinking about M&Gs, it got me thinking: once Fairytale Hall is open next year, what are they going to do with Fairytale Garden? They could keep it certainly and continue to use it for Merida or whomever else is the flavor of the day, but in theory the new hall should give them space for rotating princesses if needed. And Fairytale Garden is literally right next to the location of Princess Fairytale Hall.

So, would it be too optimistic to think that somewhere down the line the Garden might be used to accommodate a new ride? It's a big enough space.
