Is it weird that I refuse to watch? I'll be there in two weeks and want it to be a surprise.

Not weird at all. I will be avoiding any spoilers for the relaunch of Star Tours, as I'll be down there 2 weeks after it reopens.
Two weeks I can do. Two months? Not so much...

It looks fantastic!:D I hope that I'm not sticking my neck out too far when I say that things like this could be a sign for a bright future for the MK. I know that many people are split on the new queue (I like most of the queue, BTW) but IMHO, this more than balances it out! Bravo!:sohappy:

Got to experience this today with myself and two friends crammed into a doom buggy. It really is amazing in person! My cousin is visiting next month and he hasn't been to MK since 2004. I don't plan on telling him about this so he and his wife will be shocked. It's very cool. Great job all around!

Girlfriend and I arrived at WDW this evening, right when EPCOT was ready to close, so we headed to MK for a few hours. First thing was to ride Haunted Mansion. The queue is really cool. Great representation of what an "interactive queue" can be. No video screens...nothing that screams "short attention span" or anything like that. Just a lot of "plussing." Most of the people I saw at the park were adults (between 9 PM and midnight) but they were all playing with the new stuff. The kids I saw are the ones who wanted to pass it by. I will definitely want to go back in the daylight and see it again. Madam Leota's tombstone is still there, right where it was before, which made me smile.

The ride itself is so much better than the Disneyland version. Just had to throw that out there. The effects, the sounds, the extra three scenes...all of it.

And the hitching ghosts scene...what can I say. The fat one blew our heads off with a lantern. It was incredible. Simply incredible. Wonderful use of the technology. I could hear the excitement in the Doombuggies ahead and behind us...and the excitement as we exited the ride. Between the high quality ride, the new queue, and the new HHG scene, I have to say that TDO and WDI have really taken this to the next level. Great job to everyone.

Ptaylor what camcorder do you have? That video quality is really good with the dark scene / low light conditions!

This level of detail turns HM from a "ride" to an "experience". Can you imagine this all over the parks on different rides.

Everyone has been trying to figure out what Disney will do for a "Potter Swatter", well I think this level of detail cumulatively across the parks will do the trick....

Couldn't have said it better myself, it was a ride now it's an interactive experience like no other. This type of detail around the parks would be one of the nails in the Potter coffin.

See, I expect more from Disney. I'm only a mild Potter fan but that ride is amazing and it'll take more than a personalized effect by Disney to compete with it. But Disney's Disney and won't be easily toppled by one ride. I know they're not trying to reinvent the wheel, but I see the new hitchhiking ghosts as more of a gimmick. I hope it's cooler in person than it looks on video. I just remember the ghosts from when I was a tiny tot(and obviously on through the years) and it doesn't seem to do them justice. Too dorky.

I notice in the videos that when the ghosts are viewed at an angle (like looking backward across the mirrors at doombuggies behind you), they look pretty flat. Can any of you who have seen the effect in person speak to that? How fully three-dimensional do they look?

We are at Disney World right now and experienced the new Haunted Mansion additions over the last few days. We were actually in the first group of people to see the new hitchhiking ghosts earlier this week.

My thoughts:

The new effects with the hitchhiking ghosts are amazing! We were totally caught off guard with this effect and were totally surprised, which made it even better. The effect we saw was the switching of our heads. My wife and I looked at each other afterward and said "HOW DID THEY DO THAT?!" Being a huge Disney fan and enjoying seeing others enjoy what we love, it was great to hear so many people react to the new technology - it is a really impressive finale for the classic ride. WTG Disney!

The new "fun queue" was unfortunately a huge letdown. First, they have a CM standing where the queue splits REPEATEDLY having to tell people "Take the fun route... or the much quicker route." I grew SO tired of seeing people go one way... then quickly change their mind and walk back through the queue to the "quick" route. Giving guests a choice and forcing a decision based on little knowledge of the "routes" is a fail by Disney. Also, having a CM to stand there and explain the two queues seems extremely inefficient.

Now, addressing the new effects/games in the interactive queue: Huge MEH. I was unimpressed with the new games and saw a lot of people confused thinking the queue was the actual ride, saying things like "This is it?!", only to find out this was only the line.

In sum: Hitchiking ghosts, HUGE WIN... the interactive queue, MEH/FAIL.

Hopefully Disney puts more time into improving the actual attractions versus creating more interactive queues.

I not surprised they look flat considering that they are actually flat. :veryconfu
