Vaping - thoughts and opinions.

Well well well,

Look what just came out...

That was an impressive report. Thank you for sharing it. I read through it and I was not able to see (perhaps I missed it) where the findings indicated that vaping had any negative effect on non vaping people standing in the vicinity of people who are vaping. Which is one of my points I've been trying to make here. It has been established that perfume and after shaves have more toxic components in them than non nicotine vape juices (speaking I mean of vape juices that have their ingredients listed on the bottles). So people have no more right to be concerned for their health safety while standing around my vaping than they have to be concerned about my favorite Christian Dior perfume which is, all pun aside, labeled "Poison" right on the front of the sinister and wicked looking purplish black bottle.

Your American report showed very different findings from the findings of these European, British health organizations and scientists. Leaving us to decide for ourselves which one is more reliable. Since they both say different things they both cannot be totally right or totally wrong.

Nicotine without smoke: Tobacco harm reduction
Produced by:
RCP policy: public health
Type: Working party report
Status: Current
Date: 28 April 2016
This report provides an update on the use of harm reduction in tobacco smoking, in relation to all non-tobacco nicotine products but particularly e-cigarettes. It shows that, for all the potential risks involved, harm reduction has huge potential to prevent death and disability from tobacco use, and to hasten our progress to a tobacco-free society.

It seems what we have here are still many conflicting scientific medical reports about vaping and e-cigarettes. Personally, given the state of our current health care system in the United States of America..... I'm going with the British one for now.

So in conclusion.... let me once again make it perfectly clear the points I've been making about the subject of vaping vs real tobacco cigarettes.

1-- I never said they were GOOD for you. I said they are much less toxic components in them than real tobacco cigarettes and even less toxic components than perfume and after shave and hundreds of other personal care items we cover ourselves in every day of our lives.

2-There has been no real scientific evidence that has thus far proven with out doubt that second hand vape has any negative effect on people standing in the vicinity of someone doing it. So the risk, if any, is only on the person doing it. Their own body is the business of them and no one else.

3-Vaping should be encouraged. Not discouraged. Because it is a much safer alternative to real tobacco smoking which has slaughtered more human beings than wars. It is one of the hardest and enslaving addictions on earth and people who have it need help to leave it. They are trying to do that by vaping and should be encouraged and bragged on and given pats on the back for doing it not looked down on or shooed away to some dark corner the way real tobacco smoking people are treated in American society today.

So to all those who come to this happy place......

I have to disagree with the statement "Vaping should be encouraged. Not discouraged." If it is a choice between the two, vaping is the lesser of two evils. A better choice would be to not do either.

And I do understand how addictive nicotine can be.

Vaping should not be encouraged except as a means for quitting all together. It should not be seen as a replacement for smoking. Instead it should be seen as a medical means to quit smoking like the patch or gum. It is also a delivery system for other medicinal items.

This is the point of view most like mine. I can see it as a stepping stone, but also see it as a method of delivery for medication.
One of the reasons I purchased snus for my father was so that he can further limit his cigarette smoking; snus is a stepping stone.
My nieces used to go onto the back porch to smoke cigarettes, now they vape, and someday they may choose not to do that.
I wish my mother would opt for a more natural medication for her ailments, because the side effects of her manufactured drugs are causing problems.
In some cases, vaping is good, in some cases, vaping is just awful.
I don't vape myself, but I, too, am using snus so I can spend more time with people I like.

Just a cautionary note for anyone thinking of vaping on the sly on a plane:

Note that the passenger was warned once at his seat and then disobeyed the FA and vaped again in the restroom, where it apparently did set off the smoke alarm.

The lifetime ban by Spirit is going to be a real drag.

Anything you inhale like pot, cigs, or vapes are BAD. I told my boyfriend he had to choose the cigarettes or me when we started dating. So he used a vape occasionally while he was easing himself off them. My hope is that eventually he will just drop the habit all together.
